I have trouble finding a Stone 4pk or 6pk that isn't at least $12.99. Luckily the bomber bottle prices aren't that bad though.

What? I've never seen a Stone bomber that was less per ounce than a 4 or 6 pack of their beer. A $13 four pack is a $6.50 bomber. Heck, a $15 six pack is a $5 bomber. What beers of theirs are you finding sold in both that's cheaper by the 22oz?

    What's the problem with Levitation?

It's not an IPA. IPAs sell, other styles don't sell quite as well.

And yes, the war for the session IPA is beginning. Founders All Day changed the game. Everyone else will be getting on board soon.

why do people care about this?

listen, i could find out that breweries are making a certain style of beer exactly "because they want to look cool," or even "because they want to trick pahn into buying the beer"--fuck, i could find out they made a certain style of beer to prove that their genitals are of a certain size--as long as the beer tastes good and there's nothing outright harmful/unethical going on, i don't give a shit.

i'm not trying to play fantasy business or fantasy Grab The Pure Art of Semantics In Beer here, i'm trying to find and drink good beer.

    @Pahn

And that is fantastic, but the point is Stone already makes a hoppy low ABV ale and is now making this conveniently after All Day was a huge, huge success.

Not saying it is going to be bad, just saying that this is a business decision most likely made because IPAs sell and All Day was a big seller.

If this whole thing was just based on trying to sell a flavorful low ABV beer then the decision wouldn't have been made in the first place because they already make one. It probably doesn't sell that well though, so hence the shifting gears towards a style that sells (IPA) and a new trend (session IPAs).

my guess is that it will be dryer and hoppier than levitation. i hope they don't discontinue levitation though. i like the hop profile, bready malt, and the ABV is right too.

My guess is that you could repackage Levitation as an IPA and it'd sell more. Maybe that's what happening here......no R&D costs at all.....it'd be a genius move really.

They'd need to call it a Red Session IPA

Well that is neat but with Stone it will be 8-10 bucks a sixer here and I can get a sixer of a great Pale Ale like Sierra Nevada for 5-6 bucks here. Soooo

Lots of buzz about session IPAs lately. It'd be nice to get some solid numbers around how well these are actually selling. For example, everyone assumes Founders All Day IPA is selling well, but I wonder if it's their best seller?

I'm not saying it is or isn't, but it's all speculation at this point, and I'm a numbers guy.

All session beers should be canned for the beach.

Well if you read any of the press releases recently, Mike Stevens the co-founder has stated that All Day became their best seller very quickly last year, and thats why they made it year round. They expect All Day to be 35-40% of Founders' total business this year. So i'd say that its selling very well.

At least here in SoCal, they'll be competing with this. Whereas I thought Lagunitas Daytime smelled great but tasted like nothing, Ponto has a big nose and taste (I'm thinking Nelson) 4.5% abv, and a sixer of 16oz cans is $12.50. It's become my go to for a weeknight beer or days when I want to have a couple. And again, cans!

Levitation is a fantastic beer, with a crazy expensive price tag. As noted by others, if its over 10 bucks for a 6 pack odds areIll never get it. Ill buy a bomber of Ruination and a 6er of something with more alcohol in it.

Ponto is $10 tax and CRV included when I buy it directly from Pizza Port. Such an awesome deal! It's by far my favorite of the 3 cans.

Hope this IPA ends up at Costco. The regular IPA at $26 for a 24 pack is good as well. If it's less than a dollar per beer count me in as my new go to beer.

Believe it or not it's actually been awhile...last beer was the matt's saison, before that was the suede porter, before that was the wootstout, before that was (correct me if wrong) coconut ipa? so it's actually been awhile for a solid national release IPA from stone.. other than the enjoy by releases. But I wouldn't really count since those aren't nationally distributed everywhere all the time..
