My local bottle shop doesnt have the best turnover of beer and I have noticed quite a bit of beer well past its best by date. I was in today and saw they had the 11/11/11 and 12/12/12 on the shelf. I read the label and it said to cellar at 55 degrees or below. These have just been sitting on the shelf. Would it be a mistake to grab them?

    Thanks.

That's cheap no matter how you shake it. If I were into that kinda thing, I'd pick up a bottle of each and cellar 'em.

The price is definitely right, I am just a little concerned they may have aged poorly on that shelf, exposed.

If you want to try and a vertical tasting someday and unless you can readily find them elsewhere, then go for it. The cost isn't so high that you couldn't "upgrade" with a bottle you find cold later.

should be fine. worst case scenario you're out $8. at least a store temp is consistent. Even cellars can get warm in the summer. Unless you have an ultra refined pallet, I would all over them. Ask for a discount since they've sat there and designed to drink last year.
I just enjoyed my 12/12/12 yesterday. My "cellar" is never 55. more like 65-80 since half of it is finished. back half underground, front half exposed. I always have something "cellaring" and enjoy them all much later.

I've had my 12.12.12 in my fridge for a year and I plan on opening it on 12.12.13. I've paid $7.99 as well, and trust me when you can't go wrong. I've gone to bars and paid $8 for a pint of beer that was crap. You're getting 22oz. I'm pretty excited because this is the first beer that I've "aged". I plan on doing a review on it since I run a beer podcast.
