Here in No. Cali there is a brand of water that is sold by an Am. Indian tribe and has been blessed by the tribal elders. Is there a trappist ale that has been blessed by the monks?

All Belgian beers are blessed by St. Arnold of Soissons, the patron saint of hop-pickers and Belgian brewers. Which is why Belgian beers are just so damn good.

Ok, I'm a little confused here. Granted that the OP has been here since like Friday, why is everyone jumping on him for what seems to me to be a reasonable question? I've wondered the same thing myself.

    that is a good question.
do the monks have some ritual where they gather in the brewery at 4 am, mumble something in latin and not smile? no, not at all. at least not that has been documented. though the monastic life is anything but public.

i think we should consider that the monks are not as enthralled with beer as we are. for a brother, beer is a gift from the Lord. as are flowers, puppies and rain. the monks brew beer to support their work. that is pretty much it.

it ended up being beer for a variety of reasons, but it could have just as easily have been cheese or fish, as it is in many monasteries.

monks brew great beer because they are serious about anything they do. a brother is going to be just as dedicated a house painter as he would a scholar or gardener. we are fortunate that some brew beer.

so no, they do not bless the beer any more than they bless any of their other work products.
and of course, to get the absolute verified answer you would have to speak to the Abbot. don't expect an answer.

    Cheers.
