At least you don't have to hear the words "What's wrong? American beers aren't good enough for you?!!" anymore.

We may be few, but I am starting to get the sense that most of the true snobs out there aren't even on boards like this one. At least, I don't see very much of that stuff 'round here.

Beer snobs aren't about beer but about their insecurity and ego. As much as I enjoy quaffing a Heady Topper, give me a well poured pint o' Guinness anytime.

I like that you said this problem isn't unique to craft beer. A snob is a snob with everything. The same with being rude, it doesn't matter what the subject is.

Maybe this has been said, but here is my 2 cents worth. I appreciate gaining knowledge from someone that has great beer knowledge. If you have positive things to say that will benefit everyone, that's awesome. if you are only gonna talk about what whales you have had and how u r better than most, then shut the hell up. I appreciate gaining knowledge about the craft beer hobby and I always will, but do not look down at me because I like a beer from Spoetzl Brewing or New Belgium. This is what I like or what I am trying and I am learning all the way.....I hve had great beers and I will have more, but in the mean time, I also will sample beers tht may not live up to your standards..........Oh Well !..............

There really are a lot fewer snobs on here nowadays, and it's a nice thing. And I'm okay with that, really I am, despite what some n00bies might think.

It's better for the beer industry and the culture in the long run.

Not this site, theirs. Maybe too interested in high octane DIPA's etc. lately will definitely give it another look.

And thanks for the input folks !

I am very particular about my beer choices and I do know quite a lot about beer and the brewing process but I could care less what other people are drinking. I'm also not really one for putting down people who drink mainly macro adjunct lagers.

In fact, I'm drinking a Budweiser right now and I'm quite enjoying it (although that could have something to do with this raging head cold ).

Exactly. That same beer snob would be a wine snob, coffe snob, golf music snob, etc.

Really, at this point I can ignore or laugh at the know-it-all-beer-snob very easily.

it's strange because most bars and distributors that I go to, i'm the one educating the owner or bartender on styles, tasting notes and local distributorship. seems like most people working in the specialty places just have a passing knowledge of the products that they are selling and aren't enthusiasts.

there is one package store that I frequent where the owner has taught me a little bit, because he is fairly hip and also a homebrower. his selection always surprises me as well. the guy has really done his homework and he even drives to distributors well outside of his market to pick up beers that aren't available from his stores distributor. he even ages certain styles in the store for years and we often trade rarities.

Haven't ran into that many in my time but the few I have I agree......don't be a jackass. Play it cool and help a buddy out if they seem anxious, offer that seat by you or a couple samples and raise a glass together.

My definition of a "beer snob" is someone who rips on me for occasionally enjoying a Coors Banquet despite the fact that most of the beers in my fridge are Zombie Dust, Hopslam, DFH 60, Schlafly T-IPA, and several Sierra Nevada expressions. I've had comments made to me that I wasn't a "true connoisseur" because I still enjoy the occasional Banquet.

I've also had a couple of people make comments to me because I prefer cans over bottles whenever available.

Now see, I don't recognize what you did as snobbish. Maybe a touch introverted or feeling that way at the time but not snobbish. The snob reaction would be to bust in beard first, and talk over their heads about what you were in line for and finally get around to explain that "quaffable" is how people who truly are craft beer aficionados sometimes describe a beer (notice that there was no actual definition giving -snobs use big words without knowing what they mean). In several walks of life (depending on my mood) I will disengage from those around me for no good reason (strangers and acquaintance alike) only to wish I would have been more helpful or more vocal in general after I had time to think about it. Hopefully those times help me stay along the path of being not only a better advocate but a better person in general.

I'm too lazy and apathetic. Mostly, Texas is full of blowhards just like everywhere else. Plus, what if TX did cede and there was an import duty on Founders and Ballast Point?
