Hey friends, I'm planning on swinging by Richmond, VA between next Saturday and Sunday. I plan on hitting up a couple of local spots. Any recommendations are welcome - and any local BAs who want to meet up for a pint can consider themselves invited. Cheers!
I would say top spots are lickinghole creek, hardywood, ardent, heath meadery, the answer , and final gravity
My favorite spots right now to hang out and drink are The Answer, Triple Crossing Fulton, and Vasen. The Veil makes great beers and is worth a stop for sure, but I don't really think its a good place to hang out, I always end up leaving pretty quickly.
My favorite breweries - Triple Crossing - The Answer - Final Gravity Beer Bar - Mekong (same building as The Answer) - great tap list and Vietnamese food Bottleshop - De Fles Wink ("The Wink") Three Notch'd RVA is celebrating their 1st Anniversary on Saturday so they will have an some special and new releases coming out. Lickinghole is a good hour from Richmond but they are having their 4th anniversary on Saturday with the release of their anniverary beer 'Tremendous Machine' Imperial Stout supposedly aged in 23 year old Pappy Barrels. I have not see any mention on whether this will be a bottle release or not. If you don't want to travel that far but want to try some of their beer they have apparently opened a satellite location somewhere in downtown RVA. I don't think they are brewing on site but do draft pours and some bottles for sale I believe.
Triple Crossing (both locations) still has cans of GRID and Clever Girl today and The Veil still has cans of Never Together (Gose). Those may still be hanging around tomorrow.
Well, I'll definitely be stopping my Mekong again - I visited that restaurant on the way down during my move. Thank you all for the store and brewery suggestions.
Finally saw that. Assuming at least $30 per if it goes along the same lines at MPB. I don't thing they offered pours of that on release so hopefully this has pours to try before you buy.
I had a friend go - $20/bottle and they were doing pours. My friend said it's one of their better stouts. I heard some say they thought they were just dropping Despot early but word is it is a different base beer. I'm looking forward to trying it but will probably set it aside for a while. I really like how their stouts age. Side note: I'm surprised there isn't a LHCB thread here on BA considering most of the big VA guys have one. They have a lot I'm not a fan of but their stouts are consistently some of the top in the state.
I saw someone post this price on a local group page over the weekend as well and was definitely surprised by that. I figured they would price at a premium to market up use of Pappy ("very rare 23 year old") barrels but like they kept it at $20. If I knew that ahead of time I would have swung out there and grabbed a couple bottles.
