Hi, I am new to this website but from some posts, most people look to have great knowledge and could help me out. I am planning on driving through Europe for a holiday, and I have a plan to drive from Amsterdam to Paris with a stop over in Belgium for Lunch. I have read threads for the argument of Brussels VS Bruges, and some making cases for other cities/towns. But I want to narrow it down, considering most questions were basing around staying for a night or a couple of days. If you had one place in Belgium to stop over for say 2-5 hours, have lunch and get a few quick sites in. Where would it be?? I always had brussels in mind but after some research I started leaning towards Bruges, now other places also. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. and If anyone has some information for a couple hours in Vienna and Prague, that would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
Personally, I would choose Bruges only because of the selection there and two great beer bars a stones throw away from each other.Both are more relaxing than the city. The 't brugs beertje is (arguably i'm sure) one of the best Belgium bars in the world,great selection of beers and a quiet little place full of all things beer,knowledgeable , friendly staff. http://www.brugsbeertje.be/index_en.htm A short distance away is Staminee De Garre which serves their house tripel (w/a small serving of cheese and mustard) which is fantastic.If you go enjoy the 2nd floor,a little quieter than the bustle of the 1st.And as always make eye contact w/ the bar tender when you walk in and give a nod or a wave. http://www.degarre.be/ Brussels is nice,Delirium cafe (basement bar) and/or Moeder Lambic are two great stops however I think for the overall experience one would have a better time in Bruges. If you would have a stop in Belgium i advice you to sleep 1 night there because with all the beers it will be hard to drive further....
