How often do you ask the store clerk whether they have any free promo brewery stuff to give away?

Just as the beer glass fetishists, uh "geeks" will only drink a certain beer out of the "proper" glassware, I refuse to open a bottle by cracking off the crown with anything other than the correct brewery-logoed opener. Sure, it takes some work, but I find it's worth it.

Only problem I ever encountered was a lot of beer going stale "back in the day" because I could never decide when given the choice of:

Yeah, I don't know whose collection that is, but damn! That's organized. I've probably got maybe 50 from through the years, but they are scattered in drawers, boxes, glove compartments, it's embarassing. Corkscrews is another story.

Do you also subscribe to the superstition that the beer just won't taste right -- even rancid -- if you use a different brewer's opener on another brewer's beer?

Just remember, if they don't give it to you that means they're hoarding it in the back :grinning:

To answer your first question, not that often.

In relation to your second question, I've seen just about everything from the basics of stubbie holders, bottle openers, hats, shirts, glassware (standard Aussie stuff to excellent German stuff) to bar mats, serving trays, gridiron balls, rugby balls, soccer balls and just recently brewery wallets and packs of cards.

There is probably more but I just can't think of them :flushed:

I collect bottle openers from breweries and sometimes ask if they have any that I can buy - I never ask for them for free.

I'm with Lodge4 - I collect stickers, bottle openers and patches from breweries. I typically only ask at breweries if they have them for sale. I wouldn't think to ask someone in a store about free swag. I'm there to buy beer.
