...a lot of the stuff is 1 or 2 years old. It's good stuff too, stuff that I really want to try. Chimay Tripel, Kelpie, Trappist Rochefort 10, Theobroma... how old is -too- old?

The Chimay and Rochefort will be more than fine, trust me.

How about a 2 year old Kelpie? I haven't been able to find it anywhere else, and I've really wanted to give it a try...

If it's on clearance (like, say, it's ~$2 a bottle), give it a chance. If it's at normal price, forget it.

A 4% seaweed beer? You think it's gonna be awesome after 2 years? Someone's gotta buy it, so it might as well be you.

I wish we could keep Roch 10 around for 2 weeks sometimes. My bigger concern would be how long the perishable stuff has been around. Buy a few 10s and compare to new ones. I like them relatively new but some folks prefer the age.

Grab the Chimay and Rochefort, pass on those others.

Theobrama was an abortion when it was fresh, I can't imagine what it would be like with age.

Never know what you like until you try it. For example, a lot of people gave Albo Scots Pine Ale high reviews, yet I found it boozy and cloyingly sweet, almost syrupy. Same with Golden Monkey, I don't see how anything that tastes like spoiled bananas and nail-polish remover can get a high rating.

They were out of Theobroma anyway, so if anything the next time I visit I'm hoping for fresh stock. To each his own.

    I actually enjoyed Theobroma

Though never had it with any real age

I like spicy/herbal flavors. Perhaps that's why I enjoy "Dandelion and Burdock" so much...

Beer bar has a AMAZING TAP LIST, but the regular clientele are senior citizens. Seriously. Like a Marie Calendars on Steriods, swimming with Blue Hairs.

Name that or those South San Francisco "beer bars"

I'm still mad that I can't find St. Bernardus Wit anywhere. Found their Abt 12, which was /amazing/, but the best wit I can find anywhere is Hitachino Nest White Ale. Other than that, it's Hoegaarden (my go-to cheap beer), or Shock Top "Belgian" White and Blue Moon, neither of which I care for.

Found a Boston store that had a pretty good selection both in the cooler and on the shelf, but... Both were placed right next to (perpendicular) to a giant South-facing window.

I had it once, and thought it was pretty good. It wasn't fishy or anything, as I recall. It had a real chocolatey taste to it, and was otherwise mild. If it's really old, there's probably not much point in getting it.

^ This. It's a bluehair given it's age and ABV. We're not talking Sophia Loren or Raquel Welch here.

I have a liquor store near me that has some decent offers, a lot of old stuff tho. Great lakes dopplerock has a sale by date something mid 2012, how does an old dopplebock hold up? (don't think ive had a fresh) Theres a few cases of affligem noel 2011 too. Never had either so I haven't pulled the trigger. Other than the stouts I pretty much just use it for seasonal offers. Any thought on the noel or dopplerock?
