I'll be in OKC shortly and the places listed under beerfly don't have many reviews. Seems Cellar Wine in Norman is my best bet and Sams Warehouse on 63rd in OKC possibly but the reviews are not very current. Is there another store I should consider in OKC? Broadway Wine Merchant has a single 1 1/2 yr old review and they say they carry 600 brews - is this any good? Any help would be appreciated. cheers jd
Broadway is pricey, but carries good stuff. It's also close to Byron's Liquor Warehouse, which has the best prices anywhere in the metro and a decent selection. Sams may be good--I've not been there in a good decade--and it is near May Avenue Liquor store at 50th and May, which has a decent selection. Further up May is Grand Cru, which has an excellent selection but will be quite pricey. If you head to Norman, Cellar has an excellent selection but is pricey. I tend to prefer Spirit Shop on Main and Barry, Joes on Alameda, or Corkscrew on Lindsey and 24th--all have a very good selection, with better service and lower prices than Cellar. Supposedly Edmond has a few good stores, but I don't know them. Don't forget our limited hours. Evey liquor store in the state closes at 9pm, and none are open at all on Sunday.
Thanks Gilberg I went to Broadway and indeed found the selection decent and picked up quite a few OK brews - Choc, Coop and Battered Boar - I want brews not available in California. Seeing as they know what is good I was very surprised to see bottles in front of a window that gets direct sunlight. Light passing through an Orval bottle made me cringe! I'm heading to Norman today and will check out the stores you mention. thanks again cheers jd
I'm headed to OKC for business in a couple of weeks...within reason, price really isn't a limiting factor...what bottle shops/bars are must sees in OKC and surrounding areas? I'm especially interested in finding local brews and stuff I can't get in VA.
The best selection will be found at Grand Cru (formerly Cellar on May), Freeman's, and Mayfair Liquor in my experience.
Freeman's @ 4401 N. Western & Byron's NW 23rd and Broadway…try some Coop Native Amber and DNR, tasty to say the least. Both stores had bottles of a limited brew from Coop when I was there Saturday; Territorial Reserve Oak Aged Imperial Stout, less than 1500 bottles brewed.
