I just found out I will be in OP for a very short time in a couple of weeks, driving down from Omaha for one night. Are there any good stores to buy near the Sheraton on College. I really won't have time to run all over KC, so if there are no good options in OP, I could always stop at a store in St. Jose's on the way back. Once I nail the store down I will probably have some questions on what I should be lookin for.
Lukas Liquors 119th and Metcalf Big warehouse kind of place. They have a lot of product but some of it may not move out very fast. Check dates. Otherwise it has been a good stop for me. https://www.facebook.com/lukasliquorks I don't get there often as it is a bit far for me. also http://www.mdlwineandspirits.com again also a bit far for me but I have found some good stuff there too. others here may chime in too.
I've noticed there are two Lukas', one in OP and the other about 15 minutes away in Missouri. Consensus seems to be it's worth the drive to Missouri for better selection, is that right?
Yes, MO has better distribution. www.seekabrew.com This is a great site for comparing states distribution
Perfect. So in addition to picking up some Avery, FSW, Founders and Left Hand, what else is worth trying? I've read a lot about 4 Hands and Schlafly, so I am assuming I will be able to find some of their stuff.
If you like expensive Belgians, you can get Stillwater in MO. Perennial and Cathedral Square are also worth trying. I don't know if I would drive too far for their beer, but you can also get Magic Hat in MO.
Does either state get Ballast Point or Oskar Blues? Neither showing up on Seekabrew but wanted to double check.
Figured, but a Wichita distributor is listed on BP's website so that was throwing me off. If I go to the KC Lukas, is the Firestone, Avery, etc. relatively fresh? Some stores have great selections but the beers are over a year old, although I'd still probably buy some old Firestone.
Stuff can definitely sit on the shelf at Lukas, it's a big place. Check for best by dates. I tend to only buy seasonals or new releases there. Martin City Brewing is right down the street. Good food and well chosen taps.
I was there last week and the freshest FW Double Jack I saw was brewed mid June. Luckily FW clearly dates all their beer, but you might have to look around a bit to find the freshest stuff.
