So I'm on vacation and stopped at a beer store that I'll only get the chance to on the way. We're flying out of buffalo and leaving the car for the week. I have a few ipa's I will be storing in the trunk until we return. The other looks okay except for one day the high is 75. Do I need to worry? Any tips at all? Am I being too anxious? The nights look decently cool on the 40's

Am I mistaken that the original purpose of IPA was so the ale would survive the long hot travel from the UK to India? I think you shall be fine.

You are mistaken. Welcome to the world of Craft Beer, where an IPA is best consumed as fresh as possible.

To the OP, the only suggestion I have would be to put the bottles in a cooler or insulate them somehow because fast 30 degree temperature swings won't help the hop aromatics.

Thank you for getting me to correct a fallacy I thought was true.
Regardless the higher abv the better it should survive. cooler is a good idea to lessen the temp swings, but might it store the heat as well?

You were correct to begin with. I think jtmartino was using slight tongue and cheek. Now with popular tastes and brewing techniques it is much better to drink IPA's as fresh and keep them as cool as possible while storing.

None the less they should be fine in your car I wouldn't worry about it if it were me.

Not really. Or at least it wasn't that simple - check his link. Or this one:

Nowadays the focus with IPAs is delicate hop aromatic compounds. And, regardless of the ABV of the beer, hop aromatics are light and temperature-sensitive.

High ABV will not preserve these compounds. ABV has very little impact on the short-term storage of beer. The only thing that will help the OP's beer is to store it cool and dark, or limit the temperature swings.

I am a pretty big snob when it comes to freshness and such. I guess my over all point though was some people on the forums make it seem like a day=a year. Beer is fun and if the only choice is to leave it in the car for a bit then so be it, I would still be excited to try it.

wrap em in a few blankets, then put em in a cooler, cover the cooler in a few blankets...enjoy your vacation , then enjoy your beer

Relax. Your beer will be fine - a week fluctuating between cellar and room temp won't do much, if any, damage.
