I know bottles are encouraged to be stored upright, but what about cans? Does the same hold true or does it not make a difference since they're air tight? Maybe a stupid question but oh well. Thanks.

They are so short compared to bottles, why bother?

Kind of short on space and was just wondering if it would make a difference with long term storage.

From what I understand, its not good store beer on its side at all because of the yeast bed on the bottom of the glass/can. Its not recommended at all.

Unless they are corked then its fine.

That's a myth. More concern comes from the beer's interaction with the cap/cork.

The only issue with cellaring in cans is off-gassing of BPA and other chemicals from the epoxy liner over time. There's no data on that issue, but it could be a legitimate concern, especially at warmer temperatures.
