Isn't ABV kind of like a poison (course that's science) so the more you take in, the more you fight it :astonished:

I like this answer the best. It has to be the higher alcohol content.

That might explain why a person could down 6 or so of these Guinness in a few hours easily and yet be on the floor with some of the stronger American stouts, but it is the nitro and its more subtle bubbles that don't start a tornado at the top of your esophagus shutting down the slammer party. For years I have been able to drop a 16oz Guiness from nitro draft in under 2 seconds, just open up the hatch and down, fun party trick because people think dark beers are "heavy".

I wouldn't want nitro Guinness in my mouth for as much as 2 seconds.

I have the same issue, my nose has been almost perpetually stuffed since I moved to FL. Quick snort of Afrin a bit before I know I'm to have a brew sets me alright though.

Why does every thread about Guinness have to pigeonhole Guinness Draught as all Guinness? The last "Guinness" I drank was 6% ABV and I hardly guzzled it like a Coors Light, but it was "drinkable" to me, nonetheless.

You have a good point, not all Guinness Stouts are the same, and vary on nitro draft here in the States as to its alcohol percentage. I believe they still get the stronger stuff in Texas, from Jamaica? But still, my point was that most of what you get on nitro from them here in the US is low alcohol with a llight creamy mouthfeel when they have their pouring equipment sorted out and its fresh. I really like the occasional Guinness in my diet, not often, but when I see it is poured well and has that firm head on it I will order one. Yeah, not all the bars that offer it can really deliver it so I can see why some people are turned off by it. Anyway, isn't most of the US stock made in St Louis and Ontario these days? Or is that just the bottles and cans?

The Nitro Draught is the same the world over.

Foreign Extra Stout (the strongest of the Guinness Stouts) has been available in the U.S. for a few years now, before that the Extra Stout was the strongest available in the U.S. Legally sold, that is.

To be sure, I wasn't singling anyone out, there are many who seem to focus only on the Draught as "Guinness Stout." And yes, the Draught Stout is low in alcohol (the world over), but still a good choice when, as you say, handled well.

Huh? St. Louis? The Extra Stout is brewed under license in Canada, the Draught (in all of its available containers) is made in Ireland, as is the Foreign Extra.
