Truth, but it needs a year before it's a world class stout IMO.

$5.99 right at the release? I know the Total Wine by me lowers the price to that come Jan/Feb which is awesome. I actually had a 10/11 last night that was coming along amazingly.

Many have stated the obvious. Old Raspser wins the best taste/value metric. Beyond that; Kalamazoo and Sierra Nevada would be my votes for a great, everyday, non-imp stout. For an amazingly great stout that is not always to be found: Bells Special Double Cream Stout. This stuff is Da Bomb!

Let me tell you something about this stout. I haven't had it fresh..heard it is a hoppy stout. I found a bunch of old (about a year) bottles at total wine for 4 or 5 bucks. At this age there is no hop bitterness and the beer smells and tastes like a hot fudge sundae. I bought them out of the old bottles and they were all sublime. Neck-and-neck with ten fidy as my favorite stout based on the bottles I had. Can't comment on it when fresh but at a year, my god what an awesome beer.

    Great call!

Obsidian from Deschutes is a really nice stout if you can get it, or maybe Edmund Fitzgerald Porter from Great Lakes. Two of my favourite dark, roasty beers.

If I thought you could get a case of it even after it was released I would say Dark Horse Plead the Fifth. But unless you have an awesome bottle shop that stocks to high heaven, it's extremely doubtful. So I would say Old Rasputin is your best bet. If not that, Founders Porter or Anchor's Porter are AWESOME substitutes for stouts.

Great stout, great price, but I don't think it's out yet.

FBS, Expedition, Old Raspy, Storm King, Yeti and Black Bear are all great choices.
