Narwhal stout from Sierra Nevada, Tiny from Weyerbacher, Expedition from Bells, Old Heathen from Weyerbacher.....too many greats to name....BUT if you are around The Party Source in northern Ky. stop in there and talk to the gurus.....especially Peanut at 8 Ball Brewing and he will guide you in the right direction.

    Cheers

Sierra Nevada Stout is a good entry point. Available, affordable, delicious and an actual stout. Meaning not an imperial stout.
As mentioned above numerous times, and favorites of mine, Old Rasputin and Ten Fidy.
Also anything by Bell's and Founder's in the stout/porter category is going to be good. Also consider looking into Wootstout or 4Beans as they are available now. And, yes, I am aware 4Beans is a porter.

Youngs Double Chocolate Stout was the stout that really got me into the style (other than Guinness Draught). I highly recommend it!

I second Victory's Storm King or Green Flash Double Stout, stouts such as Samuel Smith's may be too subtle to appreciate.

Some somewhat easy to find ones that are great for the style as well as for intros are Sierra Nevada Narwhal, Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, Founders Imperial Stout, North Coast Old Rasputin, and Bells Expedition. Just as others have said.
