Old Rasputin was the first stout I fell in love with.

I agree. Another good one to start with is Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout.

Sierra Nevada Narwal. You can always start with Guinness. It is good and you can get it almost anywhere.

Had that back at the beginning of my beer journey, around the same time I tried Mackeson XXX and Watney's Cream Stout. Good stuff for those who like the milk stouts...

I know you're kidding around, but in the 60s, stouts were actually somewhat associated with women drinkers of a certain age. Here's a time capsule pic:

Not sure about your distro, but FW Velvet Merlin is a dynomite Oatmeal Stout...so is New Holland's The Poet, but I doubt you'll see it in your neck o' the woods.

Sierra Nevada Stout is a great starter. Hell, it's great for anyone.

Might sound dumb, but I am just wanting to branch out. I have really never given them a shot and did not want to just pick a random one and have it ruin the style for me forever.

Piggybacking on Sierra Nevada. They've been doing it for ages. Benchmark for the style.

Founders Breakfast Stout is a beautiful thing. It will be hitting shelves again soon... mmmmm

Also Ballast Point's Victory at Sea is a top one for me too.

Based on what I've sampled and what is available in Kentucky I suggest

    Dark Horse Plead the 5th
    Founders CBS
    Left Hand Milk Stout
    New Holland the Poet
    Deschutes Obsidian

...black butte porter and founders porter will fit the bill too

+1 Readily available and affordable as far as the style goes. A little on the hoppy side too so it might be a good transition for the OP. Same thing with Narhwal.

A good starter is Sierra Nevada Raincheck Stout - it's not as strong as some of the others. When you're ready, go to Founders Breakfast Stout - it's one of the best.
