I just wanted to thank everyone again for the great advice. The stout tasting went over really well! I also think that I managed to be somewhat informative. I handed out brief descriptions of each beer along with pens so people could take notes, which they did, surprisingly. I turned some of my friends onto new beers anyways.

As far as the tasting went, the crowd favorites were Ten Fidy (opened several cans) and Bourbon County Cherry Rye (thankfully only opened one), followed by the BCBCS. No one really cared for the Ipswich Oatmeal Stout or the Night Stalker. Although it's not pictured, I also opened a bottle of Mean Old Tom, which was pretty solid.

    Cheers!

Phenomenal list. The North Coast is exceptional and should definitely be included in the tasting. Maybe substitute out the Brooklyn since it's the only pure chocolate stout on the list and would be pretty easy to detect. How about throwing in the Stone Russian Imperial Stout instead?

Well the tasting already went down, but I did consider adding Old Rasputin. I think I passed only because I already had several Russian Imperial Stouts. I only have one bottle of Stone RIS that I'm aging. I cant seem to find it too often in my area. Maybe I'll try to include both in the next tasting!

I just noticed you gave a full run down haha. Apologies. I'm glad the Ten Fidy did so well. I hadn't really had it in awhile until I ordered it on tap when I was out last week. I was completely blown away and did not remember it being so tasty. I even stopped to pick up a four pack on my way home.

I also agree that there's something really odd about the Night Stalker. It took me about half the bottle to decide I wasn't a fan. I kept flip flopping between liking and disliking it. I finally came to the conclusion that if it's taking me this long to make a decision, I must not like it.

And finally, I was only able to grab one bottle of the BC Cherry Rye (due to limited availability in my area) so I'm glad to hear it was such a hit. I've received a lot of mixed reviews. I've tasted the BC Brand, Coffee, and Bramble Rye and love all of them (Brand being my favorite). I decided I was going to let the Cherry Rye age for a year or two before popping it open. Thoughts?

Loved the idea and the list the only problem I saw with the event was that I wasn't there.

Haha all good man. I'm a big fan of the Ten Fidy and I've been able to get it for a reasonable price by me ($9.99/4-pack). I'm really glad that my friends/family enjoyed it as much as I do.

I really couldn't bring myself to enjoy the Night Stalker. No one asked for a second pour so I attempted to finish the rest. Couldn't do it lol. It's been a while since I drain-poured a beer.

I somehow managed to get 4 bottles of Cherry Rye. I had already split one with my girl and opened one for the tasting. I think it's spectacular as is, but I'm still going to age my other two bottles. Never had the Bramble Rye though.

You will most likely get a lot of suggestions but I would not wait until the very end to have the bourbon county variants. If you don't want to do all 3 in a row, then I would at least put all 3 in the first 6. It doesn't pay to have the arguably new brews at the very end when ur going to be "not as fresh" as in the start.

I liked the Night Stalker, but it is an odd duck for a stout. I found it to be a very hoppy beer that doesn't fit for a stout.

If you can duck-rabbit milk stout from NC that far north, I'd add that. Otherwise, that's one helluva list!

$9.99! Blah, I paid $14.99. And no joke, I dumped the second half of that Night Stalker out as well haha. Have you had the Goose Island Big John? That also failed to impress me. You should try and grab a Bramble this year. I typically hate berries in my beer but this one blew me away.

My girl and I are driving through CT next month to attend a friends wedding. I think I'm going to have to talk her into making a stop or two on the way so I can check out the selection up there. Maryland is pretty limited..

I hear you man. I don't know if my local place got a deal on it or what, but both of their stores have had it for 9.99 for a few weeks now. It's 14-15 at most other places that I've visited. Never tried the Big John or Bramble. Plenty of Big John around here but I'll probably pass. I've never even seen the Bramble though. Did they release that this past year?

There are definitely some places worth stopping to check out. Depends what major highway that you'll be on. Let me know or just post something in the New England forum.

Big John is good, not great but worth trying it once.

The only chocolate Brooklyn BCS has in it, is in the name.
