Yeah, that's probably way too many to compare at once. The only way I could see this working is if you did rounds with a lengthy break in between. Are you doing it blind?

With that line up 3-4 people would be better. have a better tasting, and you might not even get to them all.

    Cheers!

I know a lot of people have already said it, but I'll just reiterate. Thats a seriously phenomenal lineup of stouts - break it up into at least two tastings. You won't be able to enjoy them all in one sitting even with sharing them. Enjoy!

Thats one hell of a list. Must be some special friends because thats easily $100 worth of beer you plan on cracking. I hope they're worthy. I hate feeding filet mignon to dogs and hamsters.

I have to "advocate" for my locals here and suggest some Great Divide Yeti, and my semi-locals and suggest some Dark Truth from Boulevard. Either way you've got a stellar lineup, obviously.

All jokes aside... If you really want to do an actual 'Tasting' and are not on hear to brag about your lineup. You really do need to cut your samples down. It sounded funny to me too. But despite everyone telling me this advice, I of coarse ignored it all and went on to waste a bunch of epic stouts I saved up. For one, most (non beer nerd) guests will lose interest after the first few. They will be just glugging your KBS and have little to no concern what it actually 'tastes' like. Then even if they do, their palate will be wrecked after 5/6. Wrecked enough for them to either not know or they will be buzzed enough for them to not care. Keep it simple...Try to plan about 18-26 oz per person. Focus more on proper glassware and the order of least abrasive to more complex. Have crackers, pretzels, bread, cheese and water handy. Don't forget little things like safe rides/guest beds, parking, seats and table space. It sounds funny but again its these intangibles that a beginner could easily ignore that make may them look like a bad host.

Most people here will tell you there is no difference between a porter and a stout. Based on my experience with both styles, I would disagree. No rules is a work of art

The line between porter and stout is pretty much up to the brewer's and what they decide that want to put on there label especially talkign about American Stout and Robust Porters.
Most of us on here can agree unless talkign about a very specific style that is different from the rest the rest. Example: Baltic Porters (lagered)

A stout is an imperial porter. Thought that was common knowledge amongst beer geeks?

And an imperial stout is an imperialized version of an imperial porter.

    Awesome!!

    I really appreciate this

I think I'm gonna add a few beers to the list that u guys recommended but split it up maybe into 3 different tastings..

I don't want to open up a great beer with a shot palette

Lowering expectations for these beers? huh? sure they might be a little hyped, but IMO they are hyped cuz they are all outstanding! Hard to beat those offerings.

For that epic of a stout-tasting, you'll need a puppymonkeybaby to serve up the drinks!

I did a stout tasting not too long ago (dark lord, crooked can BA RIS, Funky buddha nikolai varloff, ba narwhal, darkness)

palate fatigue is exactly right....after we were done we didn't even want to look at stouts haha.

    I'd honestly split it up
    • bcbs
    • bb plead the 5th
    • abyss
    • Dark lord
    • parabola

    and
    • Abraxas
    • Mocha
    • KBS
    • SMS
    • BA Speedway
    have them on diff days

    and
no rules since its a porter :stuck_out_tongue:
