So I'm pretty into stouts now. The Sam Smith's Imperial is my favorite so far. Anyone have any suggestions I should try?

In NJ these are all out and available:
    Narwhal
    Ten Fidy
    Old Rasputin
    Stone RIS

Then you have some flavorful stuff:
    Founders Breakfast Stout
    Terrapin Wake n Bake Coffee
    Kane Morning Bell
    Dragons Milk BA Stout
    Fegleys BA Stout
    Founders Imperial Stout
    Brooklyn Chocolate Stout

Oh Jesus, what a question. This list could go for pages.

Anything Cigar City, anything Stone, anything Founders, anything Bells, Sierra Nevada Stout, Sierra Nevada Narwhal, FFF Moloko, anything Pipeworks if you like 'em sweet, Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, anything Westbrook, anything Prairie, Terrapin Wake 'N Bake, La Cumbre Malpais, anything Firestone Walker, anything Perennial, anything Hill Farmstead, anything Kane, NEBCO Imperial Stout Trooper, Great Lakes Blackout Stout, anything Beachwood, anything Evil Twin (for a price...), FiftyFifty Eclipse and variants, any Bourbon County, Surly Darkness, anything Toppling Goliath, and I'm sure I could go on if I thought more on it.

In NJ, some of that will need to be traded for, but those are most of the heavy hitters I think.

Sam Smith's is really good and under-discussed, I think.

I just had the new Mother Earth Brewing from Kinston NC beer called Barrel Aged Silent Night. It was delicious.

As with any style of beer, there are examples of the good, the bad and the ugly. Most I've tried are somewhere between good and amazing. When it's cold or rainy, nothing satisfies like a stout (or a porter, which if we quibble are one and the same. But that is a discussion for later). You really can't go wrong. Try 'em all. See what you like.

Lots of suggestions for certain, but if you specifically like Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout, then Courage Russian Imperial Stout would be my top recommendation. Another true English RIS that goes one higher.

As for an American RIS, Sierra Nevada Narwhal has a dried fruit-forward maltiness and low bitterness in line with Sam Smith RIS. Widely available, too.

Lots of barrel aged and flavored stouts being listed here. Those are fine and dandy, but there's nothing quite like a true RIS.

Go to your local beer store and pick one or 5. The best way to try new beer is to discover it yourself instead of listening to others. Just my opinion, sorry to be the D-bag.

So Sam Smith RIS was my first as well and loved it. Many of the imperial ones mentioned you'll find have stronger coffee and bitter finish to them than the Sam Smith one. All good though. Try Sam Smith's organic chocolate stout. It's amazing as well.
