Things I love in stouts: chocolate, coffee, smoked, roasty and richer dark flavors. I love all of the flavors taken from the roasted malts. I don't mind a hop presence but I much prefer the stouts with a dominant roast flavor. This doesn't mean a hoppy stout can't be phenomenal, Nightstalker and one of the old Alchemist beers are amazing hop bomb stouts.

Perfect timing for this thread! Tarnation is going to be on tap at The Portsmouth Brewery this week. Its a collaboration between Tod and John from the Alchemist. An Imperial Milk Stout hopped like a Double IPA. Finally the question will be answered, hoppy stouts or not? I will answer the poll question after research.
