You must be using it wrong. Stick it in the freezer and suck it straight like milk from the teat of some fair drunken goddess.

Agreed. I've picked up black licorice in Abyss most years.

Also, another vote for Goose Island Muddy.

Look for Stouts brewed with Fennel or/and Star Anise. Very similar flavor to Licorice.

It's what I came here to say, and totally worth it.

I too get lots of black licorice from Expedition and, of course, Kalamazoo Stout. I love them both despite the fact that I despise black licorice. I think it works well with the sweetness and roastiness of big stouts.

Gouden Carolus Noel. It isn't a Stout, it is a Belgian Strong Dark, but it is an anise/licorice bomb.

    That made me laugh!

I almost always turn down offers of hard alcohol, but I make exceptions only for bourbon and deer blood [aka Jagermeister]. And yes, I imagine a boilermaker with Jager could work for certain beers.

It's a shelf beer and pretty easy to get a hold of. I just bought a bottle of 2014, for $11.

Black licorice is pretty common in a few Denmark brews, but they are a bit obscure.

you might be able to find Limfordsporter

Better yet, ignore the recommendation on the bottle and drink it at room temperature. Much better flavor. Your goddess-teat analogy stands though.

OT: I get some licorice flavor off of Ten Fidy when it's nice and fresh, it really ages out quickly though. Nowhere near a bomb, in any case.
