My wife and I want to attend Strakbierfest 2015 early next year. If anyone has suggestions to make our trip better that would be very much appreciated? Starting to do the research we will be including Bamberg and Franconia in the trip and plan to be in Germany for at least two weeks possibly three weeks.

Can do an in person trade for some great Canadian beers if you are interested.

Of the three Munich venues I've visited for Starkbierfest, I like Löwebräukeller the best. Paulaner am Nockherberg is a close second, and a distant 3rd is the Augustinerkeller.

Löwebräu is the most comfortable with a pretty good party atmosphere, in a classic beer hall. Paulaner is bigger, louder, and wilder, but in a much more modern building. Augustiner is just too small (it's in the lower level lagerkeller)......but it too, can be fun.

Truth be told, you can't go wrong with any of them. Go to all three!

Also, some nearby towns, with their respective breweries, have their own "starkbierfests". It looks like you'll have plenty of time to check those out as well!

My buddy runs tours to Munich for the Starbierfests........check his webby for a little info:

    Prost,

Thank you and yes was looking his at his website looks like he runs a great business. Loved the fact he takes his groups Andechs. They brew awesome beer and we enjoyed our visit to it last trip to Germany. Was thinking of going to Weihenstephan this trip. If anyone has some suggestions for Strakbierfest in any of the smaller German towns, any and all information would be appreciated.

    Beers!
    Mike

I don't think there's anything sad about being in Bamberg at any time. :grinning:

There is no Bamburg, just bad spellings of Bamberg.

Didn't even notice it must have been auto corrected, it was spelt right at the beginning of the thread.:confused: Back to the correct spelling. To anyone that has stayed in Bamberg we are thinking of booking our rooms at Spezial or Fassla. Is it flip a coin to which one is better. Or does anyone have a better suggestion.

I've only stayed at Spezial - a couple of times - and it was clean and comfy, with a solid Frühstück!

    Prosit!

Thanks the Mrs. seemed concerned about parking at Special. The Frühstück looks good at both places.

We stayed at Alt Ringlein a few weeks ago and it's right across from Schlenkerla which comes in handy at night and it has a great breakfast also.

Haven't yet had the chance to hit up the Starkbierfest, hopefully this year but I have been to Bamberg. It's one of the best beer cities I've been to, a must visit if close by. Here's a blog post I put together about my experience there:
    http://biervonwestfall.blogspot.de/2014/11/bamberg-heavens-what-beer.html

I would suggest doing the Bierschmecker Tour, as it's a great (and economical) way to get around and try some of the local offerings.

    Prost!

What is the best store in Munich for German beer? Want to bring the best of the best German beers home.

We are booked to stay at Spezial in Bamberg for that part of the trip.

Landing in Munich and leaving from Munich with days in that city each way for Strakbierfest, almost three weeks in Franconia, stayed at Spezial for the week of Bamberg. Great little package at the Tourist office for seeing all the local breweries in that town that I would highly recommend. Private tour at Wyermanns which was amazing off to Regensburg, Nuremberg, Bad Tolz, over the border to Salzburg. Beautiful bocks, wonderful Helles, great pubs, beerhalls, lots of pork, and probably the nicest thing only one IPA the whole time we were there.
