anyone been? ran across them through a pizza shop in the highlands and just checked out the website. just wondering if it's worth the jaunt downtown this weekend.
I've been wanting to head over for quite some time and just haven't been able. It will happen soon, have heard nothing but great things.
Strange is a cool place and they were pioneers with the whole “screw your day job and start a Denver small brewery” thing. The two guys that run it left their jobs at the Denver Post and are pretty much pursuing their dream. Back when they first got started they were using old equipment from a tiny little place in Ouray that’s no bigger than they are. They know their way around fruit beers, which is one of those things a lot of people screw up colossally. We might have to schedule a random meet-up down there one day!
their belgian wheat stout is what really got my curiosity going, and i can't find any reviews of it to see if the theoretical tastiness crosses over into reality.
Had one of their beers at Fresh Craft, a farmhouse, a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. I've long wanted to check more of their stuff out but never have.
Technically, they got laid off when Rocky Mountain News went under... a bit different than quitting their day job. Still it's great beer and great guys, one of the better local breweries around! I've frequently seen some of their beers at Amato's Alehouse.
Do they have a patio? This weather is making this patio player's presence needing to be felt around town at finer breweries and bars.
I assume the pizza place you are referencing is "Hops and Pie" in the Highlands. Strange makes an IPA for them "Hops and pI.P.A". Solid beer for sure. They were mentioned in the NY Times article featuring Scott Witsoe from "Wit's End". The brewery is off Zuni just west of i-25 and north of 6th ave. I was just there on Saturday. They've got 10 tapped at the moment. Best option is get the flight for $10 then stay for a session with your favorite. My suggestions: Farmhouse, Saison, Painted Black Stout. Make sure to get your punch card because you'll be going back.
They open the garage door but also have folding chairs outside to bask in the sun and enjoy some catered food from a local "food truck".
yeah, got turned onto them through hops and pie. at strange do they push their hops&piePA through a water full of cascade hops too?
Mmmkay, sounds like we might have a good option for an impromptu meet up or 2nd scheduled meet up. Their hours are Monday through Friday 3-8ish and Saturday 12-9ish.
Little known secret....their special sour Half of their patience and half of their cherry kriek. Very tasty!
I'm down. I'm not going to be able to make this first one after all (favorite band is playing that night, don't want to get smashed before hand).
