Strange how much I dislike certain world class IPAs

I love me some hops. Almost all the time. However, I occasionally run into IPAs I really dislike. The strange part to me is some of them are 90/95+ world class beers. I can barely give them a 2-3 for taste. When I compare them to other IPAs, they seem like they don't even belong in the same style. I'd like to better understand what my pallet is trying to tell to me.

My hunch is I dislike a certain hop variety.

Examples of world class IPAs I disliked: Arctic Panzer Wolf, Stone IPA, DRIPA
Examples of world class IPAs I liked: Sucks, Hopslam, Chillwave, Stone Enjoy By, Heady, Pliny, Dinner

What I didn't like about them: I seem to taste floral/sweet notes. This presence dominates the beer. Almost this sweet/floral backbone to the beer that masks the bitterness of the hops.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this? Google wasn't much help. Can I be more descriptive in some way?

I'm gonna say this is one of those shrug-your-shoulders, personal opinion situations. You're not somehow wrong or damaged for not liking certain beers, and framing your dislike as 'strange' makes your own experiences sound less legitimate. Fuck popular opinion. If you hate a beer that everyone else loves or love a beer that everyone else hates, then that's how it is.

There are so many IPAs and DIPAs out there boasting ever more different combinations of hops that the term 'IPA' could encompass a gazillion different flavor/aroma profiles, and you're bound to not follow the BA crowd on at least a few of them. Personally I think that Ruination is the worst DIPA I've ever had, All Green Everything was only good on the aroma, and that Sculpin and Lunch are painfully overrated, but I'd give my eye teeth for a lifetime supply of Heady, Green Diamonds, or Sucks.

Alpine Nelson. It turns out that I have a strong dislike for cheap white wine flavor I get from that hop. I like good white wine, detest cheap white wine.

While it's not a deal breaker for me, I also have a bit of an aversion to the more floral hop aromas. I may be wrong but have noticed Centennial seems a likely culprit. I believe Bell's Two Hearted is single hopped with centennial and Stone IPA also includes it. I find both to be solid beers but the floral notes keep me from seeking them out.

I think @DannyS pretty much summed it up. I personly think enjoy by is fucking disgusting... who cares, just drink what you like

Not a big fan of Stone IPA either for some reason. It's ok. I thought I would like Arctic Panzer Wolf more than I did as well. I think it was just too much malt for me. For some reason it was just harsh. Still a lot of things good about it, but I won't seek it out again.

If you don't like a beer that means it's not "world class" as far as your tastes are concerned. Not something to be worried about.

Just my personal opinion here...but your disliked IPA's are generally a step blow the IPA's you have listed on your likes...just my .02 (I prob would not consider stone IPA, arctic panzer wolf etc world class..but just good standard IPA's

I feel that this east-coast wave of IPAs absolutely destroy the west-coast staples. This is my feeling and I have no problem with someone feeling the opposite. Like others said, drink what you like.

Different palate, different tastes. I think DRIPA is citrusy, and my wife hates it and says it tastes like flowers.

Sounds like you've done a pretty good job of isolating what you don't like about them already.

That's interesting, I have the opposite feelings about DRIPA and Hopslam. I love them both, but for me, DRIPA is tons of citrus upfront followed by a big bitter wallop. Hopslam, on the other hand, tends to be really sweet and malty with lots of hops in the aroma, but not as bitter.

There's probably some kind of hop that's not agreeing with your palate. Are there any single-hopped beers where you get that same sort of floral note? Took me a while to figure out that I don't really like beers that are heavy on Amarillo.

Sounds to me like you more prefer the wild, tropical fruity IPAs and less so the in-your-face bitter citrusy ones. I guess it's all a matter of personal preference, though. No one's going to like everything.

I've had Stone IPA and really enjoyed it; haven't had any of the others you mentioned so far (though I've seen Sucks and I think Enjoy By in a local store now.)

I also have no idea what people mean when they talk about hop flavors in a beer being "floral." I mean, I don't go around eating flowers, but I've smelled some and I haven't tasted a beer that reminded me of the smell of flowers. Maybe it's one of those flavors that some people are more or less sensitive to -- and maybe you happen to be hypersensitive to it, in a bad way, which makes those beers with a lot of that flavor turn out not so great for you. I know that sort of thing exists with several other flavors found in food (like how cilantro always tastes like soap to some, even when it's not a ton of cilantro), so I imagine some of the flavors from hops could be the same way.

I've only found 2 highly rated DIPAs I don't like, and for very different reasons. Ballast Point Dorado was insanely bitter and medicinal to my taste buds, couldn't drink more than 2 sips. Odd seeing as I like all the rest of their hoppy stuff.
And then of course 90 Minute is just aggressively average at best compared to damn near everything else out there nowadays.

You have developed your palate, or discovered that there is a range of certain beers which use certain hop varietals which you don't like. Hmm, somewhere in the universe a puppy just spontaneously exploded because of this announcement.
