Hey, Wierd question but have a feeling someone knows. At any given time I have about 30 gallons of homebrew fermenting in my bedroom. 20 gallons of sours, Above my closet, and 10 gallons of Normal ale at the foot of my bed, Lagers are in the freezer.

My concern is yeast. Should I be worried about having beer fermenting away in my room? My understanding is Yeast take control of all the space they can, and im SURE there is a bunch in the room. Should I worry about a yeast infection or anything strange like that. Just got to thinking and Got worried haha. Thanks for the time

No.. No worry about your beer yeast, and the wild yeast giving you a runny discharge.

haha not just the discharge type of yeast infection. Apparently you can get it in your eyes, ears, and all kinds of stuff. Anyways, Thanks for the post. Makes me feel a bit better haha

I think you're referring to Candida albicans, "yeast infection" fungus. This is not an active yeast in brewing, so I wouldn't worry about it. Saccharomyces boulardii, conversely, is being marketed as a probiotic, but no infectious concern that I'm aware of.

Brewers yeast has been a health supplement for eternity, good for many reasons, especially the b complex of vitamins IIRC.

My question is how can you breathe with all that beer fermenting in there?

20 gallons of sours above your closet sounds like a great mess waiting to happen

Are you doing both primary and secondary ferm in you room? How do you deal with blowoff?

beer yeast are *******. your local bacteria can kick the shit out of beer yeast on any day. your fingernails are more of a bio hazard than any chump ale strain. thats why we have to handle beer yeast gently after all.

don't worry about it. your closet is probably a low oxygen environment. all of that CO2 pushes out breathing air, so do be careful when opening the door. don't be surprised if you lose your breath for a few moments until ambient air is replenished.
    Cheers.

If beer yeast was dangerous or somehow harmful, all of those hard-working craft brewers, who spend upwards of 8-12 hours a day in a room with active yeast, would be ill, or at least be required to have protective wear. Thankfully, brewers yeast is harmless. You can bathe in that shit and be fine, albeit slightly stinky.
