Will be going to Stroudsburg and looking for any recommendations on bottle shops and/or bars. Found one thread but nothing recently posted that I saw on it. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
I went to grad school at ESU (about 20 years ago). Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg was bar heaven back then. For a poor college student, it was nice. I have no idea what these places are like now, but Flood's on Main St. in Stroudsburg used to have a wide variety. For a real, local PA dive bar, I used to hit Rudy's in East Stroudsburg after classes. The Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap used to have some great live jazz over the weekends. And the Minisink Hotel was another interesting "rustic" place (in nearby Minisink Hills). Please don't take any of these recommendations too seriously, though. I have no idea if these places are still around. But do update the thread if you find some neat places.
There is a brewpub just past Tannersville about 15-20 minute drive from Stroudsburg, I have not been in several years always enjoyed food and drink when I did visit and have heard good things about the "new" brew master: http://www.barleycreek.com/ Now here, I have not been since it was the JJ Newberry's 5 and 10! this is right on Main Street in Stroudsburg http://www.newberrysyardofale.com/index.cfm/inner/58836/ One thing I like to suggest to visitors to the area (not beer related) is to drive around on side roads, lots of little antique stores and pretty scenery to see.
I went to Barley Creek years ago after skiing at Camelback. I totally forgot about that place. Good to see it's still around. And I totally agree about the scenery. There seem to be little roads that lead up and down hills all over the place where you can take in the natural beauty of the area.
I'm from the area originally. Parents still live there. Not much really except for shopping and side road driving. Tannersville is barley creek. Very mediocre Shawnee is Shawnee craft. Good food and beers Mt pocono is pocono brewing. Average place All within 20-30 mins from stroudsburg. Also when are you going?
Im Just arrived today. Unfortunately, I'm limited on time as I'm here for work and will not have as much free time as I would like to check out some places. Definitely enjoyed the scenery as I drove here from the Newark airport. I'm flying back this Friday.
Too bad. I'm heading up Thursday night. It if were up to me I'd go to Shawnee craft. Best choice and two exits from stroudsburg off of 80.
Just a quick update. I went to Yards of Ale yesterday on Main St. Pretty nice selection and good food too. I may be checking out Floods and/or Shawnee next.
So here is my last update as I'm going to fly back today. I was able to go to Floods and Siamsa. Floods had a decent list but IMO Yards of Ale was better. They had Bear Republic Racer 5 on tap which I personally really enjoy although others don't view it as anything special. On a different note, the hidden gem I did find: Inti's Cuisine (Peruvian restaurant). Wow!!! Ended up going there for dinner twice! They do not sell any liquour but it is BYOB. I highly recommend it to anyone that's in the area. Met and talked with the owner Julio. If anyone decides to check it out tell Julio that Chicago Juan recommended it. It is located just off of 80 Exit 310. Right next to Buddah Popcorn which was another treat to find for a huge selection of popcorn. Again, appreciate all the recommendations here. Cheers!
Wow---some long fried synapses just fired when I head Rudy's---home of the "Super" hot dog? I used to visit friends who were going to college in Stroudsburg back in the late 70's and early 80's. I haven't though about that place in probably 25 years--thanks for the trip down memory lane. Maybe I'll go for a ride up there one of theses weekends.
