Soft opening was last Friday. Grand opening was this Wednesday. All is going well for them so far, 6 taps, small but nice space. Really excited for James & Ryan. Quality through and through. Limited hours (W-Sat 3-9), but thats alright with me.

Wear comfortable shoes, as it's standing room only, no seating. I haven't been in yet, I prefer to let folks "find the light switches" before I try a place. Prolly go in next week sometime. Heard mostly good things about the beer so far.

Beers are great. The space is small, but comfortable.

Been in a couple times now. The first time there were only 5 stools, and last night there were about 15-17. They've added some barrels to use as tables. The room is cozy enough, and they made nice use of the old brick, and some (seemingly) repurposed wood. There were about 10 people when I met a friend there last night, and as it went on, the number grew to about 34. For me that was about the limit comfort-wise, many more and it would have been overly close.

The beer. In general, the beer is pretty good. The Saison-y type stuff is real nice, the wild-ish stuff interesting. I thought the hoppy stuff wasn't quite where it could be. I had an IPA last night, Iteration, that looked like the much discussed new England-style IPAS, it looked like Sunny Delite. Not terrible, but a very bitter grapefruit finish. Also had a Black Saison that had a fair bit of roast and licorice on the nose, but on the tongue had a Saison yeast spice. Prices are pretty good, a pint of a low ABV brew was $3, most other stuff (which were mostly also low ABV brews) are $4, and a 10oz pour of their ImpIPA was $6, with the beer clocking at around 8%.

Overall, pretty nice. A good addition to the City of Subdued Excitement's brew scene. Certainly a must-try when in town, IMHO. Hours are limited 3-9pm, Wed-Sat only. 21+ only, cash only, no food.

And, they've already changed hours: Tue-Wed 5-9, Thu-Sat is still 3-9. I had the double IPA again a couple days ago, and it was improved over the first time I had it.

I keep a couple of twenties in my shoes in case of running into a new brewplace.

James is a really great brewer and Bellingham is lucky to have another knowledgeable proprietor. i was fortunate to get to know james in his time in Pittsburgh and he has some really good stuff up his sleeve! Hope him the best and let me know what you think of what he has dropped so far.....

I've only had the chance to visit once but came away pretty impressed. Everything I tried was delicious. I'm moving to Bellingham in the next month or so and imagine I'll be spending a good deal of time drinking beer from Structures.

What brewery did James work at in the burgh? I'm surprised he didn't comment on my Pirates hat when I was there. Total coincidence that I wore it (I grew up in Pittsburgh).

I visited Structures back in February while visiting Bellingham, my home town, and was very impressed overall. I was excited to check it out after reading about James' connections to Pittsburgh, which is where I live now; and Vermont. I thought the hoppy stuff was great, especially the pale ales. I also thought the saisons showed a lot of refinement and restraint, especially for such a young brewery/brewer. I thought the beers showcased a level of elegance that sets the brewery apart from more "heavy handed" offerings from places like Boundary Bay and Kulshan. (Full disclosure: I haven't been to BB in a long time, and things may have changed). Overall, I thought Bellingham might take a while to adjust to a style that isn't as prevalent on the west coast, but I think once they do, it'll be game on. It's safe to say Structures probably jumped to the top of the list of breweries where I want to check in, next time I'm back home.

Starting May 1, they will be accepting cards. Thankfully. I know many people, including myself that simply do not use or have much cash on hand. I have already had a couple occasions where my purchase at Structures was limited by not having enough cash. When they released their Saison bottles, I went in to buy a few bottles, a growler and a shirt. Well, I had to pick and choose what to cut out as I didn't have enough cash on me. Was in there on Friday to buy a growler at last minute driving past. Only to find out I had $13 on me... their Black IPA was $14. :slight_frown: lol

And I'm not hurting on money, just never deal with cash. I would gladly pay enough more to cover their processing charges in order to have the convenience of using a card and being able to buy what I want. It will help their business IMO.

Well, WECU and ICU both have no-fee ATMs a couple blocks away, and there's a no-fee ATM at the Food Coop which is even closer. Cash is quicker, I find using plastic for small purchases (under, say, $50) annoying. Especially when behind a group, and everybody is paying separately, and they all use plastic. But, I'm old, and you kids these days, my lawn.....

I dig Structures’ logo and the color choice for that can is cool, but the beer name and artwork for Wave of Mutilation is fucking awesome.

Maybe one of several possible zoo animals might be able to save a can until late May (not even sure what style the beer is, so that may not be wise). Or not, whatever.

I expect the 17th to be a long, busy work day for me, but, if cans are left after that, I'll get 'em to ya. The other one, if I'm reading it right, seems like you'll have to ask a certain multi-hued equine about.

I haven't tasted any of their beer yet, but this brewery had me at "a series of True Detective themed beers." Like really? That is fucking awesome.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to hit Bottleworks that day. Family obligations trump beer.

    IPA, by the way.
