I know I'm pretty lucky. Urbain actually came to my local HBS and gave a seminar on brewing, has gave us some treats and let us in on some of his brewing secrets. Gotta say he's a pretty cool and personable guy.

    Gentlemen,

We have a charity bottle with a little bit of the typical Struise confusion. In an earlier phase we stated to plan a release of 240 bottles of Five squared. At the time we were able to bottle this 25% ABV quadruple, only 216 bottles came out from the re-crystallizer. One was opened for quality control purposes...

In the early days we said to plan an auction for all bottles on our web shop. However and as this whole project was to transfer all funds to help out our brothers from the Alvinne brewery, and as they held their beer festival around the same time of the Five squared release, we thought it would be more honest to sell part of the stock on that festival and at a fixed price.

Once that price was known, it was difficult to go back to the auction plan, that is why we release this fund raiser bottle in favor of the Alvinne Brewery also at a fixed price on this web shop.

Five squared was recrystallized to 25% from our newest Quadruple XXXX (4X). The mother beer has not been bottled yet cause of barrel ageing in bourbon barrels. It is a beer with a huge potential but is still young, and will age perfectly for many years to come. The aromas and flavours of this high ABV quadruple are so complex near an aggressive border that further ageing is needed to mellow out.

The price is high of course, but by buying this bottle, you are helping our Belgian colleagues from the Alvinne brewery, so they can actually have a smoother start through with their new brewing house and infrastructure.

We thank you for your support,

    Struise

I haven't tried this beer so I cannot vouch for it but in my humble opinon Struise should get an award for the icing machine. Both Messy and Double Black are amoung the best beers I have ever had. The Messy was mind blowing. Bummer that they are not planning a bottling of that one.

I would pay 100$ for a bottle of this... If I weren't flat ass broke:slight_smile: Hopefully I can score a taste this Fall when I head overthere/London. Especially if Mes is sitting on a stash like some of you sepeculated. Pretty please:slight_smile:

We're installing a 30 tap cooler at the School brewery in Vleteren. These beers and many others should be available continously in a few weeks :-)

came here to post that they are in the webshop, but looks like ya beat me to it.

after shipping looking at $165 a bottle...i don't think i can do it. looks like 3 people did though. i doubt this will sell out that fast with that price tag, so i'll sleep on it, but i don't think i can be that insane.

Just in-time for my visit in June - sweet!

PS: I enjoyed 5² at CBC and have to say that it was very complex, deep, and enjoyable. It really warms the soul, but it is not a beer you want to open with just a couple of people around; this is just right for a large tasting group!

It sounds like you are on your horse trying to stir up a pitch fork mob but Try reading the label that is in this thread no less than twice already... It says "ALL PROFITS will be transferred to an honorable project" on the NEON LABEL

While I don't plan on buying this bottle to support the school at Alvinne, I think they make it clear that they are not profiting at least from this sale.

Im not trying to stir up trouble but your comment is equally as harsh.
MikeCharley's comment I believe was made in regards to the 30 euro up-charge that Etre was charging which I am pretty sure isnt also going to charity. Maybe im wrong?

I think you are correct , but unless stated elsewhere I would guess that zero dollars on the upcharge are going to the honorable project. With the label being created by struise it would seem that they would be the only party donating to the project.

He was probably saying it tongue on cheek, just seemed to be a ridiculous question when i read it at the time.

Those Five Squared bottles had just voyaged without the necessary rest time. Optimum quality was not present :-)

    Gentlemen,

Maybe we can be of some clarity here. Être Gourmet bought some bottles directly from Struise. We charged them 100 Euro + 21 EURO official vat as it was a Belgian company to company sale. When Être Gourmet wants to sell that merchandise again, they're obliged to sell it at minimum 121 EURO, that is belgian law... :-( and as they're selling this at 130 EURO, we believe they marked up by 7.44 Euro + VAT 21%. If you think about packaging labour et al, this is rather minimal. Of course it only adds up to a bottle that is already high priced. At Struise we understand pricing + transport makes this project not very feasible for overseas sales. Luckily for the charity project, a lot of bottles are already sold locally.

    Thx & cheers, Struise

14 of us cracked open one of the Être bottles during a tasting at my house over the weekend. It was the favorite of the night for many, myself included and it was up against some amazing beers:

I thought my friend was nuts paying that much for it, but it was so good I had him order me a bottle with his Struise webshop account.
