For the OP and others new to and interested in the "sour" beer category, here's a potentially helpful short video that discusses the sour beer styles:

Wait! I just googled Alexandria, MN and you're telling me the Walmart on State Highway 29 doesn't sell Craft Beer!

In all seriousness does anyone know what the shipping laws are for MN. Would he have any luck buying beer online from out of state and having it shipped to his home?

I recommend working your way in. Don't start with the kings (Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen). Just get something that is a bit funky. Any time you have "wild yeast strains" you will have some sour/funk characteristic. Much of the time these beers are categorized as Oud Bruin, so try some of those out. A very solid, very available example is Founders Lips of Faith Series La Folie. Not sure if you want that as your first one, but it is a beautiful blend of funk and sour. When you are ready to progress to real sours, go to Belgian classics. Among the best of these (imo) are Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen (Three Fountains). Cantillon's regular Gueuze and Kriek are fantastic, but if you aren't used to sours... they will take some getting used to. Drie Fonteinen has a lot of beers that focus on cherry (kriek style), but they are pros in the sour category all around. The special thing about both of them is literally the air in Brussels. You can't brew their beer anywhere else in the world because the unique microorganisms in the Burssels air get into the wort and become part of the beer's character. It's yum.
