Ive shipped beers with a whole mess of bubble wrap and peanuts but recently Ive been intrigued by shipping with styrofoam cases built for specifically for wine. Just wanted to know peoples experience shipping this way as compared to any other way they have or are packing. I have link below of what Im looking at switching to for reference. Let me know what kind of problems youve run into. http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Boxes/Kitchen-moving-boxes/Wine-Shipping-Kits?mid=169
Those work great. Make sure you stuff extra newspaper or bubble wrap around the bottles so they are tight and don't move around. I also put paper I've the top of the bottle to cut down on the squeaking. The down side is that It's quite obviously a box of wine/beer. Ive never had an issue though. I was a bit nervous when I dropped off 5 at once at the Fed Ex right by the Bruery though. I'm sure they get a ton of those boxes at that location.
I love those things, they are bomb proof, but a bit pricey, so i tend to save using them for irreplaceable bottles that I want to be sure can't get damaged. Also they really limit space for extras. For more serious bottles though I would always use them if I can get one
In Nor Cal, you sometimes get more scrutiny from FedEx. "That's a wine box, right?" Since many of the wine shippers state on the outside "6 x 750ml" or "Meets all requirements blah blah blah." I try to either cover those notes with my shipping labels or sometimes even resort to a styro shipper boxed inside a larger box.
Yep. Sometimes there's a lot of noise/squeaking from the bottle moving against the styro though. Little newsprint works too.
