Lived in Canada for three years. The wife loves Alexander Keiths Red (AKR) Amber Ale. I cannot find it anywhere in PA, MD, or DE. Beer distributors said they had it about 18 months ago, but it was discontinued. SO...... Looking for a substitute that is easily obtainable. I tried Killians Red. It tasted kind of weak and had a lighter color than the AKR. Then tried Troegs HogBack Amber Ale. It had the same color, but it had some bite...like an IPA. A distributor recommended Barking Squirrel Lager by HopCity out of Ontario. This had a lot of head and had a bite something like the beers from Unibroue (Blanche de Chambly or La Fin Du Monde). Not exactly, but when I tried the Barking Squirrel those beers came immediately to mind. Definitely not something that the wife will like.

So I guess I'm looking for a deep red amber ale without a lot of "bite". Something smooth and drinkable that won't shock the wife's taste buds. I live in south central PA.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

Yuengling is the macro amber of PA and is cheap and difficult not to trip over when walking into a store there, so that'd be an easy next one to try.

What precisely does she like about the AKR? Specific flavors? The color? The feel?

Flying Fish Red Fish is red, but a good bit stronger.

Evolution ESB and GI Honker's Ale are less red, but the right strength, and fairly malty and inoffensive - those might do the trick better?

Yuengling. It has been years since I've had one of those. I'll give it a try. Thanks.
