I agree for the most part, but have you ever had King Henry?

Anyway, I like Sucaba, but it's a hot beer fresh and just lacks something compared to this. GI Barleywine is just...nothing short of amazing. It's drinking fantastically right out of the gate, but in a year, it's gonna be a masterpiece.

Almost forgot but BA old numbskull, BA monster 29, even stuff like insanity, oak horizontal, cortland flight level 410, mash and grind, kuhnhenn BA bw, I could go on, represent the style admirably. Would love to do a big blind tasting to see how people would rank these sans hype.

I can understand Central Waters Barrel Stouts versus BCBS..... But there Bourbon Barleywine not to mention there regular barleywine has body for freekin days.... Unless you want to chew your beer "literally" I mean I can not imagine a fuller body.

The CW Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale is also fairly full-bodied too, in my opinion; almost stout-ish (also good lord that beer is really frigging good, should try to find at least one last 4pk this weekend).

BCBW has a vastly fuller body and the same price on the east coast, about six bucks a bottle. I like the CW stuff but as I said I don't think it's there with the big boys. Actually I was able to get a bunch of fresh and non infected Peruvian morning and I think that may be my favorite beer they make. Of course no one wanted to trade me a 14 or 15... Although I have heard the same criticism re: body with those brews,

I could part with one for science sake. IMO it is damn good. Actually one of the best BW around(Central Waters that is, I've never had Abacus or Sucaba.

In my humble opinion, I like bbbw better than bbs. BBS is good....but....

    bcbs>bbs and bbbw>bbs
if bcbs>bbs and bbbw>bbs then where is bcbbw?!? Depends on which way the wind blows that particular night. HAHAHA!! Just drunk and being funny is all. But really, that's how it stands for me. Just had my first bcbbw tonight and loved it. I'm just a sucker for a sweet yet balance bw with a good barrel presence.

When it comes down to it, we all win when we have such fucking great beer to argue over. It's a great time to be alive drinking craft beer.

I agree. Fantastic beer but no King Henry. No coconut and less vanilla, for one. I also think the underlying stout flavors are a bit stronger in BCBB than they were in King Henry. Certainly a unique beast.

very unique, I've also had Alpine Great and that beer deserves a mention, very unique for sure

Had them side by side over the weekend. Very different. Sucaba was lighter and had more bourbon and wood character. BCBBW was very rich, almost like a Thomas Hardy's or other English old ale, and the bourbon and wood was not as present. Neither was better.

My biggest complaint with the CW BBW was lack of body as well. Maybe it was a fluke after all.

It might be the added age, but I felt sucaba was sweeter than BW. Had them a day apart.

Still, when it comes to english barleywines, neither hold a candle to BB4d.

I was really unimpressed with the BC Barleywine. Sucaba is practically unparalleled, IMHO.

Not that I was unimpressed by BCBW, but it just didn't impress as much as I'd hoped for. Once again, very dark fruit forward with a hint of dark malt and some booziness. Sucaba I find is very barrel forward yet is full of complexity. Sucaba reigns supreme for me still.

I'll have some of what you guys are smokin. :flushed:

BCBW is drinking like a champ, fresh, right now. Imagine what it will be in a year or two. If the reviews aren't telling, then I guess most people are just lying, and the beer is awful.

Sucaba is better. BCBWCBBWBCW is more like a stout. Regarding the reviews; hype is at play here.

You seem to obsess over hype, but me personally; I test out the hype with my mouth(that's what she said). But, anyway, cool story bro!
