Had a Sucaba 3 weeks back, it'd been in my cellar for close to 3 years, split three ways. Had a BCBBA last night, not exactly side by side.

Price - Sucuba was $21 split 3 ways, $7 my cost for 8oz.
    BCBBA was $7 for 12oz.

Sucaba was terrific, but the Bourbon County Barleywine was sublime, every sip a complete delight. Just my .02.

Yeah the 12 oz offerings from the Bourbon County series is awesome. I think all breweries making big beers like that should do it more often. I can say I prefer BCBS to Parabola, and if it were a lot more available maybe I would seize to buy Parabola just because I prefer 12 oz bottles at half the price. Note that you had a 3 year old Sucaba, (Abacus?), and Sucaba is best consumed within one year IMO. Cheers

I think Heady Topper is an even better beer!!

    This.

Personally, I like Sucaba better, and its $14-$15/bottle here, but both are excellent. But one thing I like about the migration is that these quality beers should be about $6/12oz or <$15 for 22oz. Too big a trend of many of the smaller craft breweries charging >$20 for a bomber, or >$10/375, for something that shouldn't be that high, other than to follow the trend of rising prices.

Had King Henry, BCBB and Sucaba last night. King Henry >> BCBB = Sucaba with the latter 2 being quite excellent in differing ways IMO.

Well, now that I've had BCBW, i can definitively say that I have found a barleywine that i like better than Sucaba, and maybe even Mother of All Storms.

Really should have bought more of the BC barleywine this year. Silly me, wanting to save my money. It's easily the best barleywine I can get without trading.

Both are excellent. I prefer Sucaba though.

Just had side by side. 2013 Sucaba over 2013 BCBW...also did another side by side. 2013 BCBS over 2013 Parabola. Although I'm a Firestone fan boy this years BCBS was excellent.

You just spoke the truth, and that's honorable. I too prefer BCBS over Parabola and Sucaba over BCBW.

Well if your uncle liked it what more evidence does one need? End of thread as far as I'm concerned.

Ok, I finally snagged two bottles of BC Barleywine! Drinking one right now. It is incredible. One of the best barrel-aged beers I have ever tasted. However, I still give the slight edge to Sucaba. I feel that BC Barleywine's flavor profile is too similar to BC Stout, and I feel that Sucaba is more drinkable. I understand that both beers are quintessential sippers, but I remember drinking two glasses of Sucaba at Beachwood BBQ a couple years ago like it was nothing. This one 12oz bottle of BCBW will be PLENTY. It is very sweet. Absolutely delicious though and I'm so glad I got to try it. Both beers have earned their 100-point ratings.

Tried my first BCBW last night, on draft no less. Good lord what a fantastic beer, I'm still savoring that taste this morning. Been a few months since the last time I had Sucaba, but also think it's an incredible beer as well- the way I look at it, the only winner really here is us with having such amazing options to drink!
