I pour it very slightly chilled. As in, throw it in the back of the fridge for 20 minutes. That's what I do with almost anything over 7%.

$15 is reasonable. Once you start getting north of $16, your retailer is getting a bit greedy.

I like it started at 50-54 and it really opens up as your drinking it

I think I have to try the next one considerably warmer then. Was fully chilled last week

Well i chill big barleywines until they are quite cold (like high 30s F) then drink them slowly over the course of an hour to 90 minutes during which time they warm up to room temp.
With a really complex one like Sucaba you get to experience all sorts of different flavors that way as some will dominate the profile when the beer is cold and others will come to the fore when it is warmer

Where in So Cal are you? If you're in the LA area, I can recommend some places.

Loved 11 fresh, popped one last week and was not a huge fan. A lot of the original bourbon barrel that I loved on it fresh really faded and the beer dulled out.

Interesting. FW must be brewing it with the barrel in mind. I think a year on the barrel is still quite noticeable, but more mellow and in harmony wth the base beer. Ive always suspected that extended aging would not serve Sucaba well. Which I'm not saying to be smart, only saying it because Parabola supposedly ages well for longer, and I just cracked a 14 for my wedding in December, and it was crazy good. It's like they should put a scroll in their boxes to explain their beers, or something.

I will not subject you to the ever-popular "You live there and are saying you can't get a beer from somewhere else?" bit. Instead, I'd recommend online sales. I think BevMo and Total Wine are a couple of good resources. Holiday Wine Cellar didn't get any?

i like the slight chill, 50-55F. you are gonna get everything at room temp, so if like that, do it

but starting at fridge temp and letting it warm as you drink is another way.

Haha. Who do you think was charging 19.99? I won't travel for beer. I would if I had a better paying job.
