Sucks vs Alchemy Hour vs Headhunter

    I can't get Sucks or Alchemy Hour in bumfuck Indiana but I did get them on my road trip to Mich. At the same time Fat Heads just started distributing here.

    Headhunter tastes like Pliny and Hopslam had a baby but that baby didn't quite live up to expectations. The aroma is amazing like Pliny and it has that thick dankness of Hopslam but not quite as good as the other two.

    Sucks I thought was above average but not holy shit the first time I drank it. The more of these I put down the more I like love.

    Alchemy Hour is awesome every time out. Possibly right behind Pliny for me overall. The aroma is not as captivating as Pliny but the taste is as good as it gets.

    Lots of love out there for each of these. What's your favorite?

    Timely post. Had my first Headhunter this weekend and Immediately called my friend who provided it--It immediately reminded me of Sucks. Unfortunately I am out of Sucks for side by side and wanted this one fresh. Right now I give Headhunter the nod but can't wait to do together. No bad choice.

    Alchemy hour was my favorite new release for 2013 and very different from the others. I loved it but if one to choose-headhunter.

    3 unreal beers!! I would have to say my favorite is.....Headhunter.

    Headhunter is amazing, except for the crazy bitterness on the finish that is just like eating grapefruit rind.

    Sucks is unreal fresh. I had it on tap a few times that blew my mind. The bottle's I have had were 45 days old and it's not as great as I remember it being on tap.

    I've only had Alchemy Hour twice on tap-traveling through Michigan, as I live north of Indy. I think it's Great Lakes best beer they make. SO good! Rye of the Tiger is really good as well.

    I felt the same about Sucks with my first 6-pack.
    I really enjoyed the few Headhunters I got in a trade, and did kinda get the baby Pliny reference you were getting at.

    I'd go with Headhunter over Sucks, but that might just be because I'm a bit worn out of Sucks right now.

    Never had Alchemy Hour.

    I've enjoyed all three, but for my money Alchemy Hour is the only answer.

    I like Sucks, but I LOVE Alchemy Hour. (Haven't had Headhunter.) I only tried Alchemy Hour at a bar because they ran out of what I had come there for. What if they had my original choice - would I have ever tried this beer that is now my clear favorite DIPA?

    Back to Sucks - I really want to do a blind tasing against Torpedo after having that for the first time tonight. I think these two are failrly similar in their hop character, and I'm not sure which would win out.

    For me, Headhunter but it is really close between all three (and all were had in a month long period).

    Never had Headhunter, but Double Trouble is my favorite right now.

    Never got to try Alchemy Hour but LOVE sucks and Headhunter was pretty good too

    LUNCH - Sucks - Alchemy, never had HH.

    Big fan of Double Jack as well. Alchemy on draft is fantastic.

    Agreed with the OP. Sucks literally got better and better everytime I had it. At first I was impressed, but not blown away. I did a blind taste test with sucks, flower power, alchemy, ruination, 75min, mongo. Side by side Sucks beat everything else out by a big margin. After sucks everyone had flower power/alchemy hour (interchangeable 2/3), then ruination/75, and last, mongo.

    Captain's Reserve is underrepresented in these conversations. Seems to be kind of a sleeper.

    On that note, is anyone else excited for Brooklyn to put Blast! in 4-packs? Captain's Reserve, Blast!, and Alchemy Hour all have some essential element in common, to me—maybe it's the honey-ish flavor.

    Did you say "worn out of Sucks"? Had my boss pick me up 3 cases of Head Hunter and I love that juice but I am really hoping Sucks stays fresh year round because at the availability and price point I can't beat it around here...

    I am lucky to live In a place where I have had plenty of opportunity to try all three freshly bottled and on tap. I don't personally think they necessarily have similar taste profiles (sucks has a little more grapefruit/citrus taste to me) but my order is:

    Sucks
    Alchemy hour

    Headhunter

    I haven't had Blast! or Alchemy Hour. I dont get honey in Capt's Reserve. When you say honey I think Hopslam which I am not.a fan of.

    Have had a healthy dose of all three over the past few months and this is how I'd rank them:

    Headhunter
    Sucks

    Alchemy Hour
