If I'd never had a Vermont beer and the "one beer" (per OP) you offered wasn't Heady, I'd unfriend you

Thank goodness I don't live in Maine...but tough for MA too with so many great beers.

Classic - Harpoon IPA would seem to me a legacy choice, avoiding Boston Beer Co as to obvious. Ipswich Rt. 101 close second.

Jack's Abby Framinghammer, maybe Mass Rising. The less obvious choice, though, would be Shipping Out of Boston.

    Mayflower Porter.

That sticks with an important factor - easy to find and buy as they are all widely distributed and available. Obviously omits the titan that is Treehouse...

Lancaster Helles Lager would be my second choice.

It sells pretty well for being crap...I know the point you're making, but what beer would you say PA is known for?

I'll also add for being crap it is 100% the beer that showed me in college that there was beer other than macro light beers, budweiser, etc. I could argue it was my gateway to craft.

I started a thread a couple years ago asking what beer people thought best represented their state. There were some interesting answers for sure. I'm fairly certain it was precovid, so we're probably primed for another thread like that

Agree with you here. Actually drinking a bottle now. Would prefer it over any of the Penn or Lancaster beers I’ve had.

And now thanks to all this discussion I plan to grab one of those big cans next time I’m out as a revisit, it has been quite some time for me :beers:

Here are a few I've never had from the East, because these don't make it to Chicago, including what I'd like to try from Pennsylvania:
    • MA - Treehouse Julius
    • ME - Either by Sacred Profane
    • NH - Smuttynose Finestkind IPA
    • NY - Something from Suarez
    • PA - Troegs Nugget Nectar
    • RI - Captain's Daughter
    • VT - Heady Topper
Maine has several great breweries we fortunately get here, would give out Lunch, Coolship Resurgam or White.

And I stated Ryeway to Heaven for Illinois based on my personal preference, but I would imagine people would want Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout, Revolution's Deth's Tar or Straight Jacket if they never had an Illinois beer. 3 Floyds Zombie Dust would be a no-brainer for Indiana. Wisconsin would be hard for me, likely a NG or CW but 3 Sheeps is my favorite brewery in the state.

Probably can’t find fresh NN now. Keep a tab on me and I’ll send you NN and Double NN cans next year when they first get released.

Well I could've and would've righted that Nugget Nectar for you this year if I knew this back when it was fresh...next year my friend.

Edit...Now you got two of us trying to help you haha
