I'll be taking my daughter and sister to the Xcel Energy Center tomorrow for a concert, during which I plan to shoot over to Surly for a cold one and a few souvenirs. Any advice on any good stores in that area to stop at? I am very unfamiliar with Minneapolis, so I have no idea where to go and will only be up there for a few hours, so can't spend too much time looking.

    Thanks!

Zipps and/or Four Firkins would be good. Four Firkins is a straight up beer store with some of the best selection you will find.

There are some great bars/stores in st paul near the X as well. The muddy pig (albiet slightly expensive) has a fantastic beer selection.

Ale Jail is over there too.

You are driving past a veritable plethora of liquor stores going from the X to Surly.

Four Firkins is not one of them, Heritage is not too far out of the way, Frankly the Liquor Barrell in New Brighton might be a really good bet, it is just off 694 and that is the route I expect you will be taking.

Why would you go up and around on 694, especially with the construction? Straight shot west on 94 to 394 to 100N.

these direction's are great take the france ave n exit and you are blocks away from surly on the way home you could easily hit 4 Firkins and if time permits Steel Toe brewery(blocks away) also right off Hwy 100 in St Louis Park

I recently visited the Twin Cities and found Heritage Liquor in Maplewood to be amazing, also props to Elevated Liquor near the airport.

Zipps was also a very fun store with a nice selection but their Stone beers were all $2 more for than the other stores I visited.

Since you are in the St. Paul area Ale Jail is another good craft beer store.

Whatever you do SKIP Dennis Brothers. Don't believe the reviews the place is miserable. Go to Zipps, Four Firkins, Ale Jail or Heritage. Great people and great beer selection.

Did one of them kick your dog? Always enjoyed the place, I'd go there more often if it weren't so far out of the way.

Hit the four firkin, then grab another pint at Steel Toe, then swing down to Miracle Mile Liquor Barrel. Probably my favorite west metro beer circle.

Didn't kick my dog, but definitely crossed a line after I wrote a review for them on this site. After deliberating I decided to not out them on this site and tell the story of what one of the owners did but rather go thru the Better Business Bureau. I know thy closely watch this site and sure hope they appreciate the curtesy.

Seriously, hit up Thomas Liquor in St Paul and Zipps. Both right off 94 and in between the Xcel and Surly in BC. No need to drive out of your way.

Interesting, I'd like to hear the story via message if you ever get bored. I've heard some stories from people in the industry about these guys, but they've never been anything but enthusiastic & kind to me (to the point of pulling stuff out of their stash).
