So my wife and I are heading out to Philly for a beer focused vacation and are looking for some advice on can't miss places. I've used the resources on the site to identify a large list but would like to hear from the people on the places that we must visit. Would also welcome great restaurants suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your time helping us enjoy the Philly area.

    Cheers,

    Groovy

I'm a little out of the loop since I moved away, but Philly has a great food scene. There are many great foodie spots and small BYOB restaurants. Google Phillymag's top 50 for a general overview. My fav's used to be Osteria (and all Vetri restaurants), Amada and Barbuzzo. All of the Steven Starr restaurants are also well done. Dandelion is a British pub with cask ales, fireplaces and a hunting lodge kind of feel (downstairs). There are also a number of newer places and pub/eateries that are worth the trip. I would make a reservation in advance for weekends. Don't miss the Philly sandwich - cheesesteaks at good but the true Philly sandwich IMO is the roast pork with broccoli rabe. Go to Tony Luke's or John's Roast Pork (only open for lunch I think). A walk through Reading Terminal Market is also a very Philadelphia thing to do- great for lunch. Get a fresh and hot cookie from famous 4th st cookies.

My favorite gastropubs were Memphis Taproom (a little out of the way but worth the trip) and Devil's Den. There are many more. Monk's is a classic and is recommended but I don't think their food is great. If you want Belgian food and beer stop by Eulogy in Old City which also has a great beer list

Also, if you want a good mixed drink check out Franklin Mortgage and Investment Co - very cool speakeasy style bar.

As far as the beer goes, search the many threads or maybe others will chime in.

When are you planning on coming out?

Philly Beer Week is May 30 - June 8

Plenty of good events going on and you'll get to check out the whole city
