Any thoughts on a brew? I was thinking about something slightly hoppy with a little floral/fruity notes. Something to go well with the warmer weather but could be a session beer that doesn't have a massive amount of ingredients. Trying to keep the cost down a bit more than normal.

ESB comes to mind. Simple recipe, but awesome. Look up a fullers ESB Recipe. I recently brewed the 'Can you brew it' version of fullers. it uses 4 different hops and turned out very nice!

Do a golden ale with your hops of choice. something like a mix of ekg/challenger/first gold/styrian goldings etc

Another suggestion, elderflowers are in bloom here, if there are any where you are they could go quite well with more restrained hops like ekg/noble hops etc. use them late in the boil

Got any extra ingredients you want to use up on hand? That will assist in the "cost" factor.

I'd say right now a simple wheat beer would hit the spot. Keep it low in OG, hop it neatly with something citrusy and call it done.

That.. or if you want simple, I don't think you can knock a Pilsner/Wheat combo with something noble, or maybe even galaxy and hit it with a saison yeast.

    Pilsner
    Wheat Malt

Galaxy to bitter and aroma .Somewhere around 25-30 IBU's all together.

3711 yeast. Ferment it warm, it'll be dry as heck, so you can keep the OG really low as it'll probably get under 1.005. Keeping a low OG saves you on some grain.

He wants something "slightly" hoppy, a "little" fruity and floral, and "lower" cost. I don't think 8+ ounces of hops is what he was looking for, but to each his own.

well drop it to 2 oz at FO and 2 oz dry hop if you're really super broke. But if you're SO broke that you can't envision affording anything but 2-row and the cheepest hops your LHBS has in minimal quantities, maybe you should consider buying food instead of beer.

I don't think anyone here was saying they are broke. I know I certainly have never brewed and had money on my mind. I wouldn't rag on someone trying to make a cheap recipe, myself.

Beyond the money issue which you decided to hone in on, it didn't appear that over half a pound of hops seemed something feasible for a light floral, slightly hoppy session beer.

Maybe instead of throwing a bunch of hops into a beer you should consider paying for reading comprehension skills.

A saison with some some british hops might fit the bill pretty well. A wheat in the same vein might also be appropriate.

Pilsner smash with some noble hop.

I think a saison yeast or a belgian yeast of some sort would be nice.

I'm definitely not broke. But I absolutely love food, maybe as much as beer. What I'm getting at is I've brewed batches that were upwards of $45. I'm thinking I'd like to cut this next one to about $25-$30

A good smash for me of 1060 OG is $22-$26 unless the hops are expensive or rare, and assuming I'm using dry yeast of common varieties (US-04, S-04, etc). There's not much I can realistically do to save money on this.

When you homebrew thought you are buying forty pints at a time, so I can see why you might want to save a bit. I buy grains by the sack, so I'm essentially buying two hundred pints or more at a time. It's probably more of an issue here where we get reamed by the tax man when buying beer- I can make homebrew up to 1/10th of the price of a shop/bar bought beer for example, whereas the price differential is less in most of the US.

American wheat beer remains the cheepest beer I've ever made.
