My wife and I recently went to Vermont for a beercation. We had many excellent beers but my wife's favorite was a bourbon barrel maple syrup stout.

Does anyone know of a beer that is available in SE Michigan that can help her?

Today she "forced" me to go to Holiday market to look for beer for her. Out of 500 beers, only one had maple syrup in it and it was a saison.

Trading is an option if you know something good let me know.

THANKS! My marriage relies on this.

I've been told adding a little Blis Bourbon Maple Syrup to KBS is a nice substitute for CBS. If she likes things real maple forward then add a little more. They do sell Blis at Founder's company store, but call ahead to see if it's in stock before making any type of longer drive to save headache if it's not there.

    Good Idea!

I will just have some Blis sitting around and add it to all stouts to see if it pleases her.

You might have to go right back to Vermont, or at least trade for some Vermont beers because those folks seem to know how to do it right. Here's a list from a search for 'maple stout' that may help, but finding them in SE Michigan.....?

When it in season, Short's Woodmaster is a really good beer that uses maple syrup, but it's a brown ale. Enough folks here in Michigan may have some of this in their cellar for trade if you want to try to search it out for a try. But to keep your wife adequately supplied, adding syrup to a good stout sounds like your best option.

SHHHHHHHHHH. don't need more people lined up

just kidding. don't even know if i am going to make the drive since they put the limits so low. 1 hour drive each way for 8 bottles of beer...

Also would suggest woodmaster although the maple isn't "strong" in it. It is a great maple brown. I think I am sitting on 4-5 bottles.

Also, get some good, grade b, dark amber syrup, put a little in a glass, and fill it up with a good stout (something readily available so you can replicate). Don't tell her what it is, see if she likes it. Founders imperial, ten fiddy, old raspy, plead the 5th (i know not readily available but damn that is good), expedition, Brooklyn black chocolate, etc. Then if she loves it, bam, you've got your mix and make it out to be a special thing you can do for her. just don't give away the secret. If you need the placebo effect, say it is from vermont or similar to what you had, etc. Sometime all you need is a little suggestion to make it more believable.

Woodmaster has to be at the top of my very short list of those that I've tried.

DFH 75 minute is made with maple, but likely not what you're looking for.

And now I just want to leave work for a bit and go explore Holiday as well for some single bottles...

Hmmmmmmmm, Dark Horse Maple Beer...... I waited for the bb tres for like 2 hours. I don't know if I want have that level of commitment again.

But then again, my wife is gone this weekend for a wedding shower. Maybe I can surprise her / not get yelled at for driving almost 2 hours to get some beer.

I realllllly like the idea of just mixing beers with syrup and seeing which one she likes the most.

Ill let you know what is the best. Maybe some time next week.

I think they also restocked the store with bourbon barrel maple syrup. Which depending on the price, Sounds amazing.

I am a sucker for maple. Love that flavor on most things. Bird dog makes a maple bourbon and it is perfect. I bring it hunting and it makes for a very good breakfast chaser.

those two Dark Horse beers are well worth grabbing if they are anything like the 2013 versions. Best beers ive ever had from them aside from BBPT5.

another really good one i recently had was Flying Monkey Acadian Groove. Very strong maple flavor and worth checking out if there is any around. Oddside Hipster Brunch if you can trade for some as well.

White Flame Brewing's Black Flame imperial BBA maple stout. Darn close to CBS, but the only way to find one will be through a trade. And no, I will not trade my last bottle.

Greenbush Doom Slayer is a Maple Ale, that should still be around FWIW. Has a good Maple flavor.

There should be another batch of Jackie O's Bourbon Barrel Black Maple (technically a "porter" but clocks in at 11%) out by year's end.

I'd give a call and check. I was there a few weeks ago and they had their regular maple syrup in, but no BB syrup. I think that comes later in the year, more around 4 elf when the syrup has had some time to sit in barrels. The BB syrup does have a great flavor, and while I've never had Blis, I have taken a liking to DH BB syrup in my KBS. Very CBS'ish.

I've had the Greenbush BA Doomslayer and while I do like Greenbush BA brews, I didn't get a lot of maple out of this one. They actually brew the beer using raw maple sap fresh from the tree before it is boiled down to actual syrup. IE, it is heavily diluted from true sweet maple syrup.

They posted on instagram they were going to have the BB syrup stocked for saturday. so I was just adding it to my shopping list

That's my plan for the next time i open a KBS, or really almost any stout could use a little maple. Plead the 5th, BAM, maple, ten fiddy, BAM maple. not kidding, love the flavor.

do you remember how much the regular syrup was? I love REAL, really good, syrup, but it usually doesn't come cheap.

I can't keep up with all of the social media options. I'm on their facebook, so I rely on that to keep me in the loop. So much for that.... I'm not an instgrammer....or a twitterer.

So anyway, I've never bought the regular so I don't know what it cost, but I think the BA was $15-20 for the small bottle. And I can't remember the size offhand. So I haven't helped you a lot have I? It shouldn't break the bank unless you are buying gallons of it.

Wish I could go to this, but I'll be doing demo work on father in-laws house :slight_frown:
