Hello BA friends, New to homebrewing... just did my first recipe... brewed a double IPA and it came out decent, Ill be tweaking the recipe. Anyways... what brings me here... I am looking to create a hoppy pale ale recipe. Can anyone vouch for a clone recipe that comes out very well? somethings to keep in mind.... -I use brewtoad -Some beers I really enjoy... Carton 077XX Carton Boat, Heady, Pliny, Lawsons SOS, Lawsons Super Session IPA, any Trillium IPA, Tree House IPAs, Victory Dirtwolf. Yes i know they are all world class IPA's... just so you have a sense of my taste. -Right now I am doing extract (yes i know it hard to create beers like this while doing extract... soon I will be moving onto all grain). -I do use brew in the bag... So I can do a partial mash... Look forward to hearing soem responses... basically looking for a good base recipe that I could thrn tweak to my likings! Cheers!
Check out the Kama Citra recipe from northern brewer! They provide the recipe in PDF form so you can buy the grain, hops and yeast anywhere. http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/kama-citra-session-ipa-all-grain-recipe-kit.html
Are you set on it being a clone recipe? A good place to start is 5ish lbs light DME or 3lbs light DME and a minimash with 4lbs 2-Row. Then hop with a few ounces of Cascade and you've got SNPA. 2-3oz for the boil with half at 60min, rest at 5min. Dry Hop with 2oz for more hop aroma. WLP001 or the equivalent.
I suggest you clone an averagely perfect IPA. Sure, it's not a commercial recipe, but it is very tasty. You can find a recipe in the Recipes section. Although they say AG, there are extract+steeping instructions, too.
Zombie Dust clone? Do a search, it's in this forum in old threads somewhere for extract or all-grain. I've done the extract version and it was delicious.
Friend of mine just did this one: http://www.greatfermentations.com/downloads/instructions/beerkits/BrainEaterPaleAle.pdf and it's real tasty. Apparently it's Zombie Dust, but they can't call it that, obviously.
+1. I'm halfway through the keg I brewed last month and it is drinking terrific (got to get a pic up in the "How did it turn out" thread). Definitely exceeded my expectations and is in the higher echelon of beers I've brewed. The hivemind here did a top notch job putting that together.
