I guess this is another "favorites" thread.. but, whatever, I like the other two, and I love me some summer seasonal. I personally can't wait for Bells Oberon every year, Wiggy Wiggy from Diebolt will always have spot in my fridge, also a big fan of the Mexican logger from Ska. Any patio pounding pils, lawnmower lagers, or sipping sours you're looking forward to enjoying to beat the heat this summer? Mostly intended for seasonal releases, but far be it from me to argue with someone who loves to sip on a nice pilsner urquell to beat the heat. Cheers, Ben
I could always count on Odell for seasonals back in the day; Red, St. Lupulin, Isolation Ale have been some of my favorite beers.
One of my faves was new Belgium somersault. Alas it is no more. Scorn and cold from TRVE are awesome for lower abv summer drinking.
St. Lupulin and Oberon for sure. The new Dry Dock Dayboard Lime is a great patio beer and it sounds like that one will be around throughout the summer. Beyond that, it's tough to argue with Bierstadt Helles as the best CO beer for all seasons. Summer especially, though.
So, this is gonna sound weird, but I like the Panga Drops (keller pils) from Nicaragua. Not a great beer, but it's light and has a something-different going on. Plus, 8oz cans so it's a good take-a-quick-break swig.
Bierstadt's Cerveza Clara Y Mas Fina Especial was a great summer beer that, I believe, is sold out. It is going to be back next year. The beer is a 4.5% Mexican lager brewed with heirloom Oaxacan corn. A beer great to drink alongside grilled foods, and, of course, Mexican cuisine. I also find myself drinking more Kolsch, mostly Reissdorf, but Prost's is an above average domestic option.
I got a four pack of Friek this week. Drank three of those fuckers yesterday. I have some New Glarus Serendipity, and I think I like the Friek better.
I came across some damnation this week and it reminded me how much I love bone dry Belgian beers. Any recommendations on local options that dont use brett? Saison, golden strong ale, tripel etc? These just hit the right notes in the summer. I grabbed Colette and miss hades all of a sudden.
Cellar West in Lafayette has more brett-less saison than usual: Nightingale, Steadfast, Friendly Fields. Not sure if much of those are hitting stores or if you gotta go to the brewery.
Unfortunately, I don't think they can it, but I remember the Saison from The Post was dry and super sessionable (drank 4 after a triathlon a year ago.. whoops). I really dig everything that Bruz does too, and Funkwerks is always worth a re-visit.
I usually go to Baere for good local saisons. Looks like they have a new Pear Saison. https://www.shopbaere.com/page
Normal saisons have kinda gone the way of the dodo. At least in the US craft beer world. Plain 'ol Funkwerks Saison and TRVE's Cosmic Crypt are the only ones I've bought lately. Outer Range makes several good ones, although their packaged stuff is kinda pricey. The guys from Spangalang have always been good with saisons. I haven't made it down there in a while, but it looks like they still keep one on all the time.
Enjoyed Valley Wall from Outer Range. Clean, straight forward classic saison, peppery notes, dry and super refreshing
Was just at 4 noses last night. I could def put back quite a few of their Mountain Waves. The Mosaic hops really pop. Almost tastes fruited.
Funkwerks Saison in cans is delightful for summer though obviously not seasonal.. Second’d the Mountain Waves - great stuff.
That's good to hear; the pack I got last summer of mountain waves was really off. I'll give that another go as I love Mosaic.
In summer I always keep a 6 pack of 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon specifically to drank after mowing the lawn.
Shiner Ruby Redbird, because I used to live in Texas. Not a huge fan of fruit in beer but gotta get at least one 6 pack per summer. Austin Beerworks's Pearlsnap Pilsner was a year-round favorite but especially loved it in the summer. Can't get it in CO unfortunately though.
