Don't see ANY Sierra products -- I think they're punking you to get you in for pork chops.

I haven't heard of any canned Celebration not being can-conditioned aside from one 10 bbl tank-conditioned batch mentioned by Terence at the end of 2021 for internal testing and that one-off canning in 2017 when it was a late fill-in for the fresh hop variety pack. Everything else from here and social media has indicated it's been can conditioned the last two times it's been released.

    Chris,

I listened to some podcasts that Terence (@SierraTerence) conducted last fall and I replied to him:

“You mentioned that the cans of Celebration are can conditioned, this was a topic I was unsure about.”

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...of-celebration-ale.670301/page-2#post-7666450

As I type this message I do not recall whether Terence discussed the topic of Sierra Nevada having the flexibility of ‘switching’ from tank conditioning vs. can conditioning during the production season.

    Cheers!

It is but at a small scale. I think it's usually for club store packs and shops at the breweries.
Yeah, but they were (are?) keeping their options open... and back in Jan 2021 Terence was initially predicting they'd move away from can-conditioning it (which it appears didn't turn out to be the case).
Now that you say that, I probably inferred it and shouldn't have presented it that way... but they did do this for internal preference testing in 2021 as mentioned by purephase above.

Is bottle conditioning typical for nicer lagers? Is it something that is common for the smaller German brewers or anything?

For some reason I associate it with ales, specifically British ales, but I don't know why that is.

A motivation for bottle condition beers in Britain is that the beer can be marketed as being a Real Ale:

“Real ale is the name coined by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) for beer that is "brewed from traditional ingredients, matured by secondary fermentation in the container from which it is dispensed, and served without the use of extraneous carbon dioxide".

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_ale

Belgian Ales such as Trappist/Abbey type beers are sometimes bottle conditioned. The aspect of bottle conditioning fosters the aging/maturation of these sorts of beers. Another example of a brand which is bottle conditioned is Saison Dupont.

I am not aware of bottle conditioning being a common practice for lagers in Germany. I do know that some bottles of Hefeweizen brands are bottle conditioned.

    Cheers!

Not particularly. Krausening in the lagering tank or the wooden casks (see Augustiner) is more common. I think it just came up because SN is known to bottle/can condition at times.

Hmm. I'll have to check mine, but I thought mine had more info (could be confusing it with the Trumer cans).

Just checked my cans -- little different in that they have: 53 PKGD ink-jetted above the date code and time (I'm guessing?): 032123 11:10.

But no, no brewery code like you usually find. And I checked the six-pack packaging and can't find any imprints -- but I always find SN package codes difficult to find -- I'll go over it in bright sunlight.

Picked up two cases canned 3/29/23 that just got delivered last week to a Kroger near me in Dallas. Truly a delightful beer and matches up perfectly with us hitting the upper 80s/lower 90s this week.

Krafted in Elmhurst, IL tapped it last Thursday night. I went in Saturday afternoon and it was already sold out :grimacing:. Supposedly they are supposed to get another keg. In the meantime, I will look for it in cans.
