I can't believe you guys didn't get Narwhal. I might just have to send you a 6 pack, there's still some on shelves around here.

Was that right off the warm shelf though?

Also, what didn't you like about it?

It sounds like you are under the impression that this is a new beer. It is not. They just didn’t release it last year, but did for many years prior. It’s a well-made, refreshing, crisp lager. Always has been.

Is this a bit? What are you talking about with the packaging?

Scrimshaw? Bleah. Unless they've really changed it since I last tried it, not a great example.

So yeah, nay-sayers always gonna neigh, from Cali to Penn. I'm a traditional lager drinker/enthusiast. I've enjoyed SN Summerfest since it was first introduced and thought it a good rendition. Not gonna make a judgement until I can try it myself.

I’ve had a 6er. I’m certain you’ll enjoy it as much as you always have.

What did you think of the new hop profile?

Still can't find it in my immediate area as of yet and it seems like the SN's new beer finder along with the one I'd usually use now matches up.

Slightly tongue in cheek, I've never liked summerfest. But in do think the cans look crappy.

Ah -- yes, the truth comes out. Any Pilsners you *do* like?:rolling_eyes:

I drink a lot of scrimshaw and trumer. And there's a local ish one called alluvium that I really like, but it's more expensive and can be tricky to find fresh

As previously said, I tried Scrimshaw a while ago and was really unimpressed.

Trumer is probably my favorite current Pils -- and I often compare Summerfest to it (even though I know they're not identical), so why the hate on SN?

    'Cause it's SN?

Oh no, I love SN. They're probably my most consumed brewery. I'm not sure what exactly it is about summerfest but it just never worked for me. It's been at least 4 years since I've had one at this point, maybe more like 6, so I don't recall my exact impressions.

Since I haven't tried the new rendition, I can't tell you it's time to give it another go -- but I can remember the first time I tried Summerfest and was so taken by a big Ale brewer putting out such a good Pilsner.

To the flip-side, if I see any fresh Scrimshaw I'll take the same challenge. Has it changed its recipe in 11 years?

Not that I've noticed. The cans are contract brewed by Gordon Birsch, but they seem to be consistent with the bottles.

Honestly, the fact they changed the recipe might be reason enough to revisit and see what they're doing with it. The packaging does really turn me off, "refreshing summer lager" isn't a phrase that inspires confidence in me personally

 -- odd reasoning to me. But I like GB's beers... have to see what's still available around here.

At one time (maybe those many years back) North Coast used to advertise Scrimshaw as an "American Lager Ale." I guess that might be an American-style Kölsch? sort of confused me then.

    I know it's not new

At this point In time we dont need this in SoCal

Very Mid tasting lager. Enegren is king, but i get it that others without access to good lagers would seek this out.

In California we have no shortage of good pilsners and lagers so SN could go away . This isnt worth a trip when so many Enegrens are on shelves here

We have Notch, Schilling, Idle Hands, Von Trapp…the list goes on.

But for the price and format (six or twelve pack of 12 oz cans) it’s a nice beer to have in the fridge. At 5% ABV in a 12 oz can it’s an easy beer to keep grabbing.

I would at least properly chill the second can and pour it in a glass. I don’t think it’ll change your opinion, but I’d at least give it a fair shot.

It's very much the same in Northeast Illinois, but the smaller breweries aren't available everywhere. It's nice to know I can drive two blocks and get a well-made Pilsner because it's from a nationwide distributed brewery -- and a pretty solid brewery at that, and not wander around the county looking for white whales.

What you probably don't get is that good beer like SN isn't available at every turn, everywhere in the U.S.
