Summit Hop Hate Thread

I absolutely hate onions - can't eat them in anything. But I've always loved summit hops, and do not get the onion flavor from it or other hops that so many talk about. Nor do I get Cat Pee from Simcoe or Citra. I've used summit in a few homebrews and dryhopped with them, and the hop profile is always great. It's pungent for sure, but in a good way (for me, at least). I think certain people must be predisposed to getting these off flavors from hops, and I'm happy I'm not one of them. Bring on the Summit!

 

Has anybody else drank your homebrewed beers and noted the onion?

A few years ago I homebrewed a Citra IPA. For my palate (and my wife's palate) I picked up tropical fruit flavors. I took that beer to a party and others at the party remarked that they picked up cat pee: I asked two people: "What do you think about the beer?" They both replied (almost simultaneously) that it smelled like cat pee. As they both got to the bottom of their glasses they both requested a second glass of that beer. I was shocked!!

Does Grunion have Summit hops? I got a big amount of garlic/onion from it. I'm not a fan.

 

I can't say as I've ever had Summit hops, to my knowledge. I think it's Deviant Dale's they're in, not Gubna. I'd like to try an example but I can't find any reasonably fresh DD's around here.

 

I actually really liked Green Flash Imperial the last few times I had it and I liked most of the stuff mentioned here. Onion bombs are aiight with me.

 

Still a better hop than Sorachi Ace.

 

Never really picked up onions from summit hops or any hoppy beer for that matter, but I definitely get cat piss from Citra and Mosaic. But the strange thing is, I actually kinda like it, lol. I guess it's an acquired taste, like horse blankets or sweaty goat balls.

 

I can get that onion flavor with some Summit forward hop beers. It can be very heavy handed sometimes, other times it is pleasantly pungent (if that makes sense ) So, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

 

That's what bottle shares are and singles are for. Had gubna at one a while after the onion bomb. On the other hand, still haven't had pea soup in over a decade after a violent bout of vomitting set off by a can of progresso.
