Just saw on Twitter that Summit is going to be releasing a new year round organic, hoppy Session ale called Hopvale. It will be packaged in 16oz cans and come in at 4.7% ABV and uses organic hops, organic malts and organic lemon peel.

Here is a blog post link with a bit more information. I will be updating this with video, pictures, and more information as we near the beer's release in early April.

@Rajaholick 4-packs of 16 oz Hopvale Organic Ale cans will be priced in line with our other year-round six-pack beers. So if Bob's Super Duper Beer Wonderland sells EPA or Sága IPA for, let's say, $7.99 then theoretically BSDBW should also be selling Hopvale Organic Ale four-packs for $7.99. Theoretically.

    Cheers, all!

Expect IBU in the low-to-mid 40s. I'll add that to the blog post as well. Thanks!

Wish Festbier made a glorious return and became year round. Not to say this beer won't be good, but damn did I love Festbier.

I believe that's the first time I've seen someone tag his own self in a post.

How citrusy is it? They are making it out to be a session IPA style by their descriptions, but the lemon peel confuses me and makes it sound more like a summer outside beer.

It's a summer beer/session IPA hybrid in my opinion. I found the lemon peel added sweetness (like a candied lemon peel) to the beer, but there is still a decent hop bitterness. It will make a great summer beer when it finally warms up.

It's tasty, but I don't see myself buying a lot of $10 4 packs when for another buck I can get a 12 pack of EPA, Saga, or whatever the seasonal's gonna be.

Have you priced organic v non-organic of just about anything lately?

Summitbeer stated earlier in this thread that it should be priced the same as 6-packs of their other beer.

Good point. I do tend to buy some organic products, but I don't feel the need to pay a premium for organic beer. Yet.
Yeah, it's brand new, so maybe the price will change.

I have to pull the "asshat card" on myself here. Seems I was a bit confused early on. The pricing is actually set in line with the line price of our Unchained/Union beers, which are a bit higher due to unique ingredients, processes, aging time, what-have-ya. Which is also true in the case with Hopvale Organic Ale. The cost of the raw materials - organic hops, malts and lemon peel - are higher than our other year-round beers. We have seen a range of pricing on Hopvale Organic Ale which is, ultimately, up to the store/bar/restaurant.

I finally picked up a 4 pack. Here is the summary of my review:

This is a very refreshing beer. The certified organic seal should appeal to some that seek out this sort of thing, but it is not a big issue with me. Nonetheless, this is a very enjoyable beer in its own right with no "for a" qualifications, whether "for an organic" or "for a session ale." I expect I will be a repeat buyer of this beer, but the premium price (for a Summit non-special release beer ... compared with others in the market, it is not especially premium priced) and the 4-pack pint packaging will make it a less-frequent purchase.
