I was at a Summit tap takeover last night and while talking to the guy they had there he said that it's very likely, but still not 100% certain, that this is the last year Maibock will be brewed due to lagging sales. I can't remember for sure, but I thought he said they were hoping to replace it with the Organic Ale. Personally this doesn't bother me much. It is good beer, but it's just not something I want a lot of. He also told us that the Meridian Session Ale will be a single malt, single hop beer. I'm not sure if that had been posted anywhere, but I hadn't seen that information yet.
Heard the same a while back. Let schell handle the maibock and Hefe. Summit needs to replace it with the rye ipa. That stuff haunts my dreams
Wrong on the Maibock. Some of the grain comes from Mark's cousin's farm in No Dak(just like our pilz). People like the beer and it has a nice family/local tie. No plans for it to go away. I believe the Meridian is a single malt/hop brew. We brew the beer on April 1st. I have no idea what Damain has up his sleeve for this beer. More info to come...
Huzzah! I don't drink a ton of it, but I would really miss it if it went away. I have fond memories of my first one. It was the first year it came out ('92? 93?) in 22 oz. bottles.
Too bad, Organic Ale would have easily become a mainstay in my fridge. Haven't had a Maibock in a couple years.
I'm working on a Summit spring sampler now and really love the Maibock. I'm looking fwd to grabbing an organic ale.
I am glad to hear that this is staying, mainly because I am big on breweries maintaining traditionally seasonal beer styles. After just coming from CA, where there are no seasons, I really appreciate coming to an area that has seasons, because it keeps it in the heads of brewers that there are traditionally seasonal recipes. I could probably count on one hand the amount of breweries for the whole state of CA, who brew a yearly maibock.
