I recently had a Summit Oatmeal Stout, the second time I've had one. Both times they were served on nitro. Does anyone serve it regular, without nitro? My bartender said that they are told by the distributor that it has to be served on nitro. Thanks!

It is served on nitro everywhere. Even hole in the wall joints (like Hopkins Tavern). What is your interest in a non-nitro version?

Thanks. I simply think it would taste better if not served on nitro.

Yeah I had it last weekend at Groveland Tap and it's on nitro there as well. It's still a really good beer!

Carey from Summit here. It is only served on a Nitro mix. We have done some testing here at the brewery on straight CO2, and while still tasty, we all preferred that it be served with the Nitro. The creaminesss that it imparts is just a vital part of the flavor profile. Thanks for trying it!

Any possible chance this would ever be sold in stores? I would love the day when I could buy a four pack of Summit Oatmeal Stout nitro pint cans!

I agree with the Smurf with a drinking problem.

That would be nice since I rarely go to the bar anymore, but I think Summit might have enough going on right now

Summit just cut their Hefeweizen from production and are adding a beer similar to their Silver Anniversary (west coast style IPA). As much as I wish the Oatmeal would be available for off-sale, I doubt it will happen soon

I doubt it will be in liquor stores anytime in the foreseeable future, but one could hope!

    Jon from Summit here.

The reason that we do not can the Oatmeal Stout is very simple. We don't have a canning line. Currently, we don't have the physical space to install a canning line at our brewery. Also, we don't have the necessary equipment to install nitro widgets in our bottles. Outside of Guiness, not many breweries do have that capability. Mark announced to the public a few weeks back that he is planning a brewery expansion. There are some really impressive things that will happen at Summit in the next few years. Get ready.

Personally I think it would be better without nitro, but I don't care for nitro in general. I think it mutes the flavor of the beer. But in any case I'm a Summit fan, so it's all good. Lots of excellent offerings from a fine local brewery. I really need to get over to the brewery sometime for the tour.
