Set to release next week, it's number 5 in the union series.

    From their website http://www.summitbrewing.com/brews/old-blaggard:
"This Union Series brew is an homage to the great strong ales of the famous English brewing town of Burton-on-Trent. Aged six months, this ale features new varieties of British barley and hops and offers up huge complexity and warmth.

Due to the aging requirements of stronger beers, many British brewers would include “Old” as part of the beer name. (e.g. “Old Tom” referring to the brewery cat). In rural England and Ireland, a blaggard was a ne’er-do-well, so “Old Blaggard” seemed like an apt name to denote the hooligan nature of our Head Brewer, Damian McConn."

I'm really excited for this. It's great to see some local barleywine action! Thoughts, opinions, etc.?

My thought is "Welcome!" Barleywines are one of the styles that's underrepresented around here in bottles/cans.

    Looking forward to trying it.

I run some beer samplings as a side job, and I'll be pouring samples of this on Friday from 4:00 to 6:30 at France 44. Come say hi & introduce yourself

Easy now Jack. Unless things change later this week, we won't be tasting/sampling the Old Blaggard. We simply aren't getting enough. Actually it's the smallest allocation possible. Looks like Summit's yields were VERY low on this.

Intersting. So we're probably going to see 1 or 2 pack limits then, do you think?

Didn't the English use the term "Stale", not "Old"? Although I can see why you wouldn't want that term on a beer you're trying to sell.

Just visited Heritage to get some since they posted about it on Twitter. 2 bottle limit. The man working said many places are doing 1 bottle limit. Yield was only like 200 some cases I guess.

Just picked up a 4-pack at Liquor Boy in SLP. Still some in the cooler. Didn't see anything about limits. $12.99 plus tax.

Looking forward to cracking one tonight in a toast to our veterans - Thank you for your dedication and service.

Looked like a full rail at Liquor Boy. For those in the area, Edina Liquor on Vernon said they just rec'd their shipment, but it was only one case.

I think I grabbed the last 4 pack of Old Blaggard. It was the last one on the rack, but I'm not sure if they have more elsewhere that they would restock.

I'm really enjoying this beer. Picked up a 4 pack for $9.79 and wished I grabbed another. I found it to be exceptionally smooth and drinkable for 10.1% abv. I'm not picking up any of the standard summit yeast so it's not tasting like a summit brew. Oddly there is an enjoy by 04/30/16 date stamp, not sure what that's about, and I was going to age a few. Nice variation on the style, well done Summit.

I saw somewhere that Damo said it should age nicely. I'm now kicking myself for not picking up another four pack at $9.95. Drinking one now, and really digging it. I could see where it would indeed age beautifully.
