Happy to see the new summer Kolsch and good riddance to that nasty Hefe. Should have been out of the seasonal line-up years ago.

Loved the 25th Anniversary so expect big things from Saga.

I'm really looking forward to Saga. Summit is capable of great things I think.

Can't wait. It is about time Summit puts their best foot forward with their regular line (which has always been good enough for session beers, ie: EPA, Winter Ale) IMHO. The Anniversary Brew and The Unchained Series (for the most part) have been top-notch and revealed what they are capable of producing.

Summit and Hefe just doesn't fit in my mind. Just doesn't seem to fit their brewing style to me.

Although, I am not a fan of weizen beers in general.

A year round IPA and an easy drinking Kolsch out of Summit sound great to me.

Great news! They are about to begin a 6 million dollar expansion project as well. I like what Summit has be doing as of late. I enjoyed the Hefe and the Scandia but the kolsch sounds great too!

Hefe is only for the Chicago market.

I enjoy the Hefe and buy numerous 12-packs a summer so I am a little sad we will not be getting it anymore. But if the new Kolsch is as good as the Unchained one, I will be more than happy with the switch.

I seem to remember hearing that Summit Hefe is very popular in Chicago. I believe that while it was a seasonal in Mn it was available in Chicago year round. I know for sure I've seen it on tap in Chicago in off months and have also seen it at The Groveland Tap in St Paul in off months as well.

That's what I figured, but the post was very vague. I had also heard at one point in time that Summit Hefe was year round in Chicago, but never worried much if it was true or not.

Looking forward to the Saga. Had a glass of EPA recently at Boca Chica, hadn't had anything other than the unchained and 25th anniversary from Summit in a long time. Was very impressed with the beer, good fresh taste. Might be trying to reacquaint myself with a good local standby.

Well they're 25% of the way there - make Kolsch year round and we've got a winner.

There was a brief period where Scandia replaced Hefe everywhere but Chicago (it was still available there).

I don't know if it's my tastes or the beer but pre-Scandia Hefe had a really nice clove and banana character to it and post Scandia Hefe was really bland and generic.

Agreed. Still liked it okay, but I don't believe it was the same. Looking forward to a kolsch. I hope it's more kolsch than a "kolsch style ale." There are plenty of those around, and they're all pretty bland.
